Ford Dumps Microsoft Sync
Got a letter in the mail today regarding additional warranty support for some component in the SYNC system…interesting…
Only issue I've had is that my new iPhone will not connect very quickly to SYNC.

That'll be nice.
My 2014 with nav is is not user friendly. I should be able to say a location in a city like "Navigate to Comerica Park, Detroit MI. without having to answer 7 questions to find out that the nav can't find where I am looking
Or spend an extra 20 minutes driving around trying to answer the questions.
I am glad the new sync will have that capability.

More often than not, I find myself looking on google maps, finding the nearest intersection, then programming in an intersection as my final destination.
when I get it programmed in, it's great ... but getting there can be VERY tedious. VERY ... TEDIOUS ...
How does Ford warranty something that doesn't work to begin with?
Not to get involved in something that doesn't directly concern me (at least not yet, because I assume this could happen to me sometime in the future) ...
But why would MY update from a few days ago be available for free on the website so that I can directly install myself w/ no intervention from Ford ... and then some other people's updates are only available through the dealer for what seems to be a pretty significant cost?

If an update is recommended for your vehicle, our website will notify you that one is available after logging in: www.Support.Ford.com In some cases, the update requires attention from your dealership and can't be installed from home using a USB. In this case, the website will say that it can only be installed by a dealer. It is best to check with your dealership for pricing information because they will also have access to warranty details.
Holding the POWER and HOME buttons on the phone until the Apple logo appears will improve the overall Bluetooth connection with SYNC. I think that might do the trick.

I just spent the better part of 2 hours updating the radio (with sync) in my truck, what really sparked my curiosity was the fact it took longer to update that module than the other 3 modules that also had a later software update.
Don't know the results as it got dark on me but by this weekend I should see some difference.
The other modules that had software updates were the GPS, BCM and the [PCM (2nd update)].

That's what I've been thinking/saying all along. How come I can tell my phone to "give me directions from here to there" and it just does ... but if I want to get from "here" to "there" on the nav system in the truck, it's a painstaking process of going through so many steps, only to get to the end and find out that the nav system doesn't seem to recognize my intended final destination.
