Taken from an article -

Even if Ford isn't anxious to talk about it, the switch to QNX is an eminently sensible move. The software already has over 50% market share in the automotive business, counting BMW, Chrysler, GM, Honda, Mercedes, Toyota, and others among its customers. Ford is pretty much adopting an industry standard.

I am not able to provide information about future updates, but you can certainly check if any are available now! Just log in at: Support.Ford.com If an update is available, it will appear in your Vehicle's To Do List. You won't be able to miss it.

I'm told there is an update for my 2012.
$132 to get it.
My computer updates itself automatically, or manually, but I am not permitted to do that with Ford.

I checked yesterday on SYNC updates, and it said there was/is one for my truck. I downloaded the files (570 MB) and put it on a USB drive as instructed. Plugged that into my truck and SYNC started updating automatically. Update went fine, and I then took the USB drive back to my pc and uploaded the log file it created to the Ford website to confirm the update.

I can't tell what the update did ... but it seems to have worked fine ... no charge, and only took about 30 mins for the update to install. I did it while driving around, so no time lost on my end.

Can't complain ...

Hey Gene45,

Did you check to see if this update is available as an instant download from our website? Just log in at: www.Support.Ford.com to check!

Would you like me to verify, Wiggum? Send me the VIN in a PM and I'll let you know what was installed.

No. The Ford IV team here said it exists, and had to be installed by the dealer.
I asked.
They said $132 .

Logn to the site failed. Try later.

Hello Gene45,

I see that you spoke with Nick. Since the update is not available on our website, the only way to get it installed is at your dealership. They are also in the best position to determine if that specific update is necessary for your vehicle.

Not to get involved in something that doesn't directly concern me (at least not yet, because I assume this could happen to me sometime in the future) ...

But why would MY update from a few days ago be available for free on the website so that I can directly install myself w/ no intervention from Ford ... and then some other people's updates are only available through the dealer for what seems to be a pretty significant cost?
