EcoBoost durability?
just to fan the flames, like the evil pest that I am, are there as many of these threads about the 5.0? Seems when it rains it really pours with the EB's. I have often wondered if maybe I should have gone with the EB, but after towing my 5th wheel many thousands of miles with the 5.0, I 'shudder' at the thought of being dead on the road so far from home.
perhaps there are lots of threads like this, and in my bias I only notice the troubled EB threads, but it seems these come up often:

I don't think there's a bad engine offering. I honestly think each has its purpose, and I would probably be happy with any of them unloaded. Our plans include a camper in the near future, so everything but the 3.5L N/A was on the table for me, but if pulling heavy things wasn't in the cards it certainly would have been.
Engine longevity factors....
1. engine maintenance
2. driving habits
3. vehicle loads/towing and hauling
4. inferior aftermarket parts or modifications
5. tuning
6. quality of oils and filters
7. ambient temperatures and humidity
8. stop & go vs. highway mileage
9. vehicle gearing
10. aftermarket wheels and tires/higher rotating mass
11. snowplowing
12. airborne particulate level
13. fuel quality
14. driving through water/salt water exposure
15. collisions and animal damages
16. luck
17. manual choke and carb vs. fuel injection
18. electronic ignition vs. points & condenser
19. racing, truck pulling, burning rubber, doing donuts, drifting
Factors unlikely to affect engine longevity...

Thanks everyone for the passionate debate. However I now realize the folly
of my question. There are far too many variables and biases that prevent
me from ever getting the answer to my question. It's like that age old
question, "what is the meaning of life?" Ask a hundred people and you're
likely to get a hundred answers. Climb to the top of the tallest Himalyan
mountain to find the Dalai Lama and you're likely to get no answer there
either.
So here is what I have decided to do. Because I have had such a good
experience with my 2011 5.0 F150 Lariat, (super crew, towing package, 4x4,
5 1/2' bed, I have decided that when I trade, it will be for the same
package in a 2016 model. Or maybe a carry over 2015 depending on the deal
I can get.
One thing is for sure though, after having gone through two GM vehicles
with two transmission replacements and four intake manifold gasket
replacements, all before hitting 100k miles, it's Fords only for me and my
family. Family of five that drives an Escape, an F150, a Focus, an
Explorer, a Mariner and a Taurus.

Truly amazing display of personal bias in this thread. Hardly exclusive to this thread though, I think most people fall into these thinking traps from time to time.
1. It's not MY CHOICE so it's TERRIBLE.
2. Not the most advanced thing on the planet so it's from the stone age.
3. Mine BROKE, so the entire design is TRASH. Every example ever made is a time bomb, and I refuse to accept any evidence that the rest aren't as bad as mine.
There is much closed-mindendess here. Do we all really need to condemn all other choices to make us feel better about ourselves? Most five-year-olds do that, you'd think as grown men we'd be past that.
