Default Best engine

Looking into a 2016 f150 lariat... I never tow, may carry some lumber but nothing too heavy. I'd really like to get the best MPG's without being too gutless.

Is the 2.7 any good or should I get the 3.5 ecoboost?

Any big issues with those engines?

Thanks

You just opened a can of worms, lemme tell you. By tomorrow evening this thread will have 100 replies, ranging from which is faster in the 1/4, so which tows better, so which one is better modified, to "neither, get the 5.0"

There is no best engine.

You could get away with the non turbo 3.5 honestly.

I'm sure some trolls will chime in though.

The best engine is the one that suits you best.

I find it interesting that the 2.7 puts up better acceleration numbers, better MPG numbers, and costs less than the 3.5. What was Ford thinking?

Also, the games they play with tow ratings is laughable. They clearly set those ratings where they want to sell certain models to certain people.

Just drive them all and pick what you feel best about.

I vote 2.7 EB. Fun to drive, best MPG, and cost the least.

And that's not me saying the 2.7 is best, just maybe best for you (statement to protect me from the trolls)

Good MPG without being gutless? Luckily, you CAN'T get the NA 3.5 in a Lariat trim which is the gutless option out of the 4.

I really like my 2.7 Eco. Good MPG and fun to drive.
