I have had the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost. The ecoboost definatly has more power. The 5.0 was a great motor but I personally like the 3.5 better. (They did upgrade the 5.0 a year or two ago and was after the 5.0 I had so couldn't tell you about it since they upgraded the power). From what it sounds like to me you would be totally fine with the 2.7 ecoboost. It has enough power from what it sounds like you need to do from my research. It will tow up to like 7000lbs maybe a little more don't remember the exact number. It's really what you prefer. I do agree with the gentleman above though you could probably get away with the 3.5 without the turbos. But in my recommendation I would say 2.7 ecoboost is what I would get in your situation. I have a coworker that has one and loves his.

Take them for a spin and see what you think. I don't think there is any particular reason to steer away from any of the motor options as long as you are happy with it's performance and driveability.

What was the extra maintenance? Changing the plugs more often then on a NA motor?

Well, it's a direct injection engine, so the carbon should be cleaned every 30K according to some manuals. But in general, I think he's talking about the fact that the EcoBoost has turbos, intercooler, supplemental vacuum pump, direct injection, etc. etc... all things that the traditional V8 doesn't have. Just by statistical laws alone, you're going to have more chance of break-downs with a sophisticated engine like that. There are so many things that can go wrong.

For me, that was why I went V8. Well, that and the fact that the EcoBoost costs more up front AND more everytime you go to the gas pump. It was a no brainer.

The 2.7 1st year production seems to have very few complaints or problems unlike 1st year 3.5 EB and 5.0 v8 my early production 2.7 has been flawless in 20,000 miles.

Please show me any manual that states intake cleaning is needed every 30k for the 3.5 or 2.7 Eco or any Eco for that matter.

None of those items you list require extra maintenance over the V8. Also keep in mind that there are more moving parts in your V8 than the Eco.
