2017- F150 : APIM module issues
APIM Module acting up again. Had this issue with my truck a few months into owning it brand new from the dealer. Purchased off the lot in April and was deeply infatuated with my wonderful truck. This is my first FORD vehicle ever and love how beautiful my truck is. My family has never owned any ford vehicles and we had always been "Chevy/GMC" people. I, being the black sheep of the family, decided to break the tradition since at the time it seems like the F150s simply were the truck to go with based on performance, beautiful specious interiors, and a history of reliability.
However, around July 2017 navigation map was showing the NO GPS symbol on the screen, screen functions would lag (touch screen buttons not responding, bluetooth kicking devices off and not working properly, delay in changing A/C and temperature info on screen, etc.) Deeply frustrating considering it was only a few months old. Took her back into the dealer and had that warrantied and repaired. Fast forward to the end of July 2018, which ended a pretty problem free experience, and more than 35K mikes later (i drive a lot for work), i started having the exact same issues as before. Unfortunately, i am now out of warranty (way exceeding 35k miles in less than 2 years) and my APIM module is going to cost me a pretty penny to have replaced/repaired at the dealer.
I'm Feeling a little frustrated as I have owned many NEW and USED vehicles of various makes and models (Cadillac, GMC, Chevy, Toyota, Dodge, RAM, Jeep, Jaguar, Audi, BMW, Mercedes) and I cannot recall ever having issues, electronic or mechanical, with any of the vehicles that were less than 2 years old REGARDLESS OF THE MILES (My father once ran over 40K miles on his Chevy pickup in the first year of owning it and it never had issues up to the day he sold it with over 150K miles on it, and the same can be said of any Toyota my family has ever owned) Most of my miles are highway miles, steady 60-75 (depending what the speed limit is on the highway I am on) not crazy abuse, regular maintenance every 5K miles (even though manual says it could go another few thousand more between each one).
From what i can see, this APIM Module issue is very common on all the new fords. Makes me wonder if it is even worth repairing if it will just happen again a few months later.
I still LOVE my truck, beyond this annoying electronics issue, I think it is wonderful and performs fabulously. Kinda like when you are really into a girl but you realize something really annoying about her. You still like her, but man do you wish she would chew her food with her mouth closed and not like a ruminant grazing and making a world of noise eating.
What has your experience been with this particular aspect of the truck?
Has anyone tried to replace this on their own or have any experience dealing with this issue, beyond just taking it to the dealer and having it warrantied? I feel like this is one of those things I'm just going to need to bite the bullet so i don't lose my mind over it every time I hop onto my truck.

questions...1) did you try a system restore to factory defaults? 2) Is the truck on your home wifi and enabled to find updates? 3) Did you do a APIM reset? 4) Are you running SYNC 3.0?
Last Question, sorry....when you say, " navigation map was showing the NO GPS symbol on the screen", are you saying your icon isn't showing up on the map itself, or SYNC isn't showing you having GPS?

2016 with similar issues. I had my nav drop and kick off my Bluetooth phone as well. I had my iPhone plugged into the usb and right during the drive while using nav it fell on its face and said “Navigation Fault.”
i did the master reset reset and it recovered. Reading of others experience I’ve convimced myself a APIM module is the only fix.

Had one replaced as well, yesterday it locked up and wouldn't let me change stations until I did a reboot on it. After doing the reboot it's been fine. Has anyone been told why the APIMs are failing in some trucks?

APIMs are computers. Just like any computer they are prone to a glitch occasionally. I have a 10 year old Acura and every now and then the back up camera won't come on. It clears itself up every time if I turn it off then back on. The same with my truck, on a few occasions the back up camera display is wonky but it clears itself up on a restart. It also had a fit once when using Android Auto and I had to do the master reset; this is probably why there is a master reset option. Never once did I think that I needed to replace the APIM. It's a computer and like all computers if it has a glitch you have to turn it off and turn it back on and you're usually good to go. If your phone freezes up or gets glitchy do you restart it or do you go to the store and buy a new phone?
2107 F150 Limited, 63,000 miles. Thankfully, given the amount of electronics in today's vehicles, I opted for the extended warranty. I am now having a second APIM replaced. Unfortunately, there are three vehicles at the dealership waiting for APIMs, and currently no parts are showing up. Ford extended the warranty on these things for 2012 to 2014 Fords and Lincolns to 5 years. Not sure if the newer ones are a redesign, but it appears that they are still having lots of problems. Glad this will only cost $100 at this point, but it seems like Ford should really be stepping up to the plate on these things. I didn't try the master reset, but I kind of assume (I know about assuming) that the dealership would probably try this ahead of replacing the unit.
