Ford extended the warranty on these things for 2012 to 2014 Fords and Lincolns to 5 years. Not sure if the newer ones are a redesign, but it appears that they are still having lots of problems. Glad this will only cost $100 at this point, but it seems like Ford should really be stepping up to the plate on these things. I didn't try the master reset, but I kind of assume (I know about assuming) that the dealership would probably try this ahead of replacing the unit.
My dealership also wants to charge me extra $165 for diagnosis, and to update the software. If the APIM is not behaving after that, they will ask FORD for a new APIM, for which I will have a $100 deductible on my extended warranty

Seems fair to me. It's a mistake to jump online and assume APIM's fail for the same reason. They're a centrally integrated module with so many different potential points of failure a lengthy diagnostic is guarantee. I feel worse for the tech that has to look at it. Is it a bad ground? Is it a PCB quality issue? Is it Can bus problem? is there another module dragging it down? is it software related? what versions does it need and should it have? Is there an intermittent short somewhere? The APIM is made in Mexco by Motorolla (AKA Continental) with SanDisk, Texas Instruments, Panasonic & Sharp parts with a Blackberry OS so respect it for the pile of garbage it truly is while keeping in mind that it is Continental's fualt, not necessarily Ford's fault.
