I've seen this video. Towing range is limited. That being said it would still be adequate for shorter distance, taking boat to local boat ramp, towing trailer to job site.

Also even with an ICE, travel is changing, and there are more options. Owning and maintaining a travel trailer camper, for example, would be a lot more expensive than just staying at an Airbnb.

At some point the electric engine could prove to last much longer and be less expensive. If that proves to be the case people will adapt. If they can last 20 years the entire dynamic changes.

I don't know how it will play out or how long it will take. I only drive 13k miles a year so wouldn't be saving too much there, but if it lasted much longer and lower cost, and constant maintenance that would be nice.

I"m not saying any of this will happen not trying to will it into being. The major challenge has been the battery for a long time now that demonstrates how challenging it is.

Level 2 charging at home isn't that much better than level 3 (currently about $0.19/kWh), but the bigger issue is that the price per kWh is going to rise as demand rises from gasoline demand bring shifted to the grid with insufficient additional supply. That'll be more of an issue in California than Texas, but I expect $0.3/kWh in Texas by 2025. With $3.5/ gallon gas, a 30 MPG is cheaper per mile vs anything but charging with your own PV panels.

The biggest mistake in the BEV crusade is the fixation upon storage with far less attention paid to supply. It's as if everyone brought Tupperware and paper plates to a potluck but only one family brought food. BEVs make far more sense AFTER most of the good roof space is occupied with solar panels making energy looking for a home. The current strategy is going to leave a lot of consumers bitter about BEVs for reasons that are completely avoidable, just like how the public incorrectly believes that two strokes are dirty, cheap and inefficient.

I was definitely concerned about the battery but with an 8 year warranty and 75% Capacity being the cutoff I assume they know something more about the battery than I do. The only limits in the warranty are extended period of low charge. I have Never had a phone battery last for more than Two years so if they want to say it will last 8 or they will replace it I am good. Perhaps by then they will have made it through all the initial reservations
My 80% figure was for US drivers as a whole, not me personally. A buddy who only drives around Houston and occasionally to Galveston and whose wife drives an ICE just got a Bolt and it's perfect for him. I drive distances for work frequently, and most of the small towns Im in have very limited charging. Even if I could get a lightning, it would be more expensive. The Aptera is an idea for a way around those issues, but even then the $45k/1000 mile range version would realistically get 700 miles for 9 months of the year in Texas, which is still at least one level 3 charge per trip.
