Default What axle is this?

1982 F150 4x4. 4-speed transmission and 351w V8. I think it's a 9"

It's out of state and thats the only photo I have right now. What other axles were an option for 1/2 tons in 1982?

Not sure what the other options were, but just based on looks, it could be either an 8 inch or a 9 inch, both had removable third members. It looks like there is a hump on the back of the case which means it's probably a 9 inch.

Was an 8" used in full sized trucks? I thought they were 9" before Ford went to the 8.8s

I found it. Thanks.

I had thought about getting the axles from a 350, but a D44 up front and 9" in the rear will hold up for a long time how I drive.

A 9" is one of the strongest differentials made. They used to be the go to rear end for hot rodders. Guys would drill a hole in the case and insert a bold against the back of the ring gear to keep it from flexing.
