Hey there! I can take a closer look into your connection error message concerns if you'd like. Can you send us a PM with your VIN and the dealership name/location? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Send a Private Message to Ford Motor Co".

If you restart the APIM by pressing and holding power and skip forward, does the phone connect properly?

The phone always connects okay and works fine. It just disconnects now and then.

I have had the same happen to me in the past. It was very repeatable in my case, happening in 2 specific places on a road I used to travel a lot. There was some sort of wifi frequency interference in those 2 spots in both directions of travel. Music from my iPhone would stop for 1-3 seconds, and a few times I got that message flashed up on the screen just as the signal came back, at which point it went away. In my case, it was interfering with the wifi projection used for Carplay. Also, it happened on 2 different phones I had and also on my daughter's iPhone. I had looked into it and found in those locations, there were tower-to-tower WISP/microwave signals that I attributed it to, but I have no hard evidence that was the case. It really wasn't a big deal to loose connect for that short period of time.

There have been other cases where I will get tiny "blips" of the music dropping for just a split second in random locations. In one case, there was a semi that may have had a really high-power CB in operation that I have been told can make various radio signals be wonky if they key their mic while you are close to them. There may also be people who have jacked up the power on their wireless home routers that, as you drive by, might interfere since they are running in the same frequency spectrum.

Again, all of those comments of what may have been causing it are totally unscientific conjectures. YMMV

Thank you for your reply. I think you are very much on to something with your analysis. I have only had it happen once or twice in town. But there is a stretch of road I have been traveling lately with a lot of windmills and several solar panel fields where it always gets the failed message.

It has been ~ 8 months, but I happened to travel that same road again yesterday. I had the drop outs of my wireless CarPlay in the two same exact locations. It is always within a 50 yard area on the road. Still no scientific analysis or proof of cause, but I’m gonna stick with the interference of some other radio signal that causes the WiFi between the phone and truck to fail…. 🥴

I have the same problem intermittently driving all over the DFW Metroplex. Inexplicably. And if it was temporary wifi jamming, wouldn't it resolve as I went down the road. I have tried restarting phone to no avail.

My fails whenever I pass through a stretch of road with a lot of windmills and solar panels. I have also noticed it will fail when I pass some buildings such as a volunteer fire department or other commercial buildings with a lot of transmitter antennas. The way I have found to restart the Wi-Fi service is to wait until I continue on past these areas. Then go into your Phone List and tap the arrow icon next to your phone.

I agree with interference being the most likely cause. Every time I pass by the CSX yard on the other side of town, I get the same disconnection but then it reconnects once I'm out of that area. Having said that, I have on a few occasions had my phone and SYNC4 disconnect randomly with the same error message, and it never reconnects until I stop my truck and allow Sync to power down (not a full reboot) and then power on again before my phone reconnects.
