Trip reset automatically
I’ve had the same problem, happened with a passenger staying in the truck when I left. Took it to the dealer and showed them but no cure. Next time they can figure it out, I called Ford customer service, they have never heard about it. Right!
I have the same problem my 2023 XL. Has happened serveral times since I purchased it new. Both "Trip 1" and "Trip 2" are affected together when it happens. Far as I can tell now it happens when the vehicle is turned off but does not happen every time it is turned off. The milage driven is being reset to zero. The amount of time driven is not affected. It must be resetting the gas mileage display based on the time driven and the current fuel level. Holding "OK" resets everything for the corresponding "Trip 1" or "Trip 2". It goes back to operating as it would be expected for a while after that but the problem has happened to me at least three times over about 2,000 miles that I can remember. The last time was when I stopped an interstate rest stop for 10-15 minutes. Did not have any doors open for a long time other than getting in an out of the vehicle put may have gotten in and out a few times to check some things in the bed. Might have started the engine briefly at some point and turned it off before restarting for departure from the rest stop. FYI...have 3.5L Ecoboost engine. Supercab with 6.5 foot bed. Has anyone had any success in at least a temporary fix? Any "accidental" success with a software update?
i've had this happen many times over. took it to dealer about 4 times for the issue. they finally fixed it by reprogramming something. it used to happen when i would sit in my truck without starting it for a few minutes and then start the ignition and it would reset. anyway, its been fine for months and i forgot all about the issue, until it happened again a few days ago. if it happens again, i'm going back to the dealer.
With experimentation, I have discovered what DEFINITIVELY triggers this bug in my 2023 F150 XL (High) SuperCrew 5.0: Sitting with the truck OFF for an extended period of time. This might be as short as 15 minutes or more than 30 minutes. The key can be in the ignition or out of the ignition. I believe it is the proximity of the key that is important. I noticed that most of the time when I would wait 15 - 30 minutes for my daughter to come out of school for pick up, the trip odometer would be wonky. The easiest way to observe this was to only enable the trip screen. Since this discovery, I haven't had the trip odometer bug out even a single time in a couple of months. Previously, I could not get through a single tank of gas without this issue. Not sure what the actual fix is, but I know how to avoid it.

So I posted on various threads about this magical ressetting over two years ago, and I just happened to get online and check for any TSBs before my warranty soon expires. And what do you know? Ford finally acknowledged this mysterious bug in our trucks. Google Ford SSM 51972 and if you’re still under the 3 year 36k warranty, call your dealer. I fortunately have photos of the instances in case I cannot replicate it infront of them

I had to have mine reflashed twice….make sure once they start the update on the tsb, they keep the doors shut and just roll down the window and use the computer through the window. The first reflash software update was unsuccessful after opening the door. 2nd time and nearly 10k miles later mine has not reset
