That's exactly the reason.

Our Lincoln MKZ has the flush touch pad that does certainly look better. The buttons will work better with gloves though. I really like having the option to lock the keys in the vehicle, and also that the kids can get into the truck without keys or an app. I like the idea of the app, but have never used it practically. Might change now that i can remote start our of range of the fob.

They looked cheap in 1995, and look even more cheap in 2022. I just think it's a bad look for a high end truck. Now, if I were a contractor who was in and out of job sites every day, and driving an XLT work truck, the ugly buttons on the door wouldn't bother me at all.
To me, a bad look for a high end truck is deleting useful features for aesthetic reasons. If looking at these buttons is such a traumatic experience for you, remove the keypad. You can replace the trim piece if the factory feature has mounting holes.

This thread is baffling.
It's a great feature, why would Ford remove it? It's also incredibly popular, most people I know who have it don't carry a key around.
And once you've had it, keys start to seem silly, all my locks at home are fingerprint or code. Key Backup only.

I haven't used it yet.. but being able to lock the key fob inside the vehicle and walk away having locked the door has real value. Time to go experiment!

Definitely leave it alone.. I've never owned a vehicle with a keypad until I bought this one and use it daily.
if I'm at the river floating, out hunting or fishing or doing anything where i dont want to lose my keys or just don't need to carry them I love locking them in the truck and not having to stash them in the bumper.

Apparently yes.

Sorry that I baffled you with my thoughts. I, too have "smart" locks throughout my home that are able to be accessed by using a code. None of them are as ugly as Ford's 30 year old keypad design
