Here is a chart that goes back to 1997 that shows the CPI of new cars/trucks.

Tue second chart is presented slightly differently but goes back to the mid 1930’s.

We are definitely in a big upswing.

Tue other interesting thing to consider is after big inflations for vehicle prices you don’t see a reset anywhere near where prices were before the inflation. The lesson here is these prices are here to stay.

Interestingly, electric cars prices are coming down….Tesla announced this a few days ago and other manufacturers will certainly follow suit.

It'll be a rather sad situation in 3 to 5 years when guys will be selling used '22s and '23s and the '21s are worth more. New vehicles are already a depreciating financial liability and you're absolutely going to lose on them, but there is no way the used market will reflect a 20% over msrp temporary to two model years.
while I will continue to disagree with your repeated ill conceived characterization of Ford customers, I certainly don’t disagree with most of the rest of your logic.

continuing to increase price while also removing features is a very poor business model.

serious question: do you frequent any other auto forums outside of Ford vehicles? I do not, but I do know that Ford trucks are not the only Ford vehicles losing features. I believe Lincoln’s are the only ones without deletes.

Curious, do you think this "inflation wagon" is not real? As someone that works at a manufacturing facility I can promise you that increases in materials is not something people are making up to increase profits.

That won't happen.

I dont think other manufacturers will follow suit. Tesla dropped prices on the MY and M3 in order to qualify for the federal tax credit (they had to get under $55k), so they dropped prices 20%. They have also had their stock prices drop by over 50% in the last year and had to do something to increase sales and help their stock price. Since they havent done anything to change the looks of their vehicles since inception, and now that other manufacturers have competition, they had to do something. They also had the room in their margins since they have no outside dealership model and again, havent put as much money in to their vehicles as the other manufacturers have in the past few years. EVERY other manufacturer has put billions into their EVs over the past few years, and even with the prices they are at, they have much smaller margins. Check the invoice vs MSRP on an EV vs an ICE for any manufacturer and that price difference is much smaller on the EV.

Now, Ford did just drop the price of the Mach E (I refuse to call it a Mustang), but only by a few %, and again, it was to come in line with the new fed tax credit guidelines. Interestingly enough, after record sales for Tesla on the MY in Jan., the fed again adjusted their tax credit requirements, and Tesla just raised the price of the MY. Not the full 20%, but they raised it just 3 weeks after lowering it.

Mustang Mach E - AWD extended range battery = $85,000 cdn with missing components

Tesla Model Y - AWD extended range battery = $75,000 cdn complete, no missing components

I can order a Tesla online right now and get a confirmed delivery date and receive a complete vehicle without any missing parts.

Ford has proven pretty useless in its ability to market and sell the Mach E vehicle.

Ford has sold every Mach E they can make, and I have no idea how the Canadian gov does a tax rebate. Tesla has taken away some features in the US models as well, so maybe you Canadians are just lucky. You also dont have to lock your doors at night (I lived in Canada for a few years, so not mocking here).

I think that his run of everything he touches turning to gold is coming to an end. He did a lot for the EV market and forcing other manufacturers to catch up, but since buying Twitter simply because he couldnt keep his mouth shut, he has almost single handedly killed the stock of 2 of his companies. And dont get me started on his Boring Company and what a sham that is.

As for Space X, I dont understand why everyone thinks it is so revolutionary to reuse a rocket. Pretty sure that the shuttle program did that too with their boosters. And Space X has far less hoops to jump through than NASA ever did since they are a private company and not a gov. entity.

The people that think this is all a master plan by manufactures to take advantage of their customers and sell fewer vehicles crack me up. I work for a N American manufacturer and it’s been tough, costs have skyrocketed and components are still difficult to come by. We still have orders in house from 2021, and any new orders are 6 to 12 months out. We had to completely redesign our core products twice in 21 due to components going away. It’s a mess and will continue to be for months to come.

I completely forgot about his boring company and his solar shingles or whatever they’re called. As for Space X and all the starlink satellites he’s sending up who knows.
