Default Random tailgate opening

Just at the store and when I got in the truck and was ready to drive off I hear a clunk like someone bumped into my truck. No one was around me. I didn’t hit the button on the dash and the remote was in my pocket with nothing else. The tailgate was opened.

Has anyone else had a random tailgate opening?

I would keep an eye on it to make sure you don't have an issue, but I would put my money on random accidental activation from the key fob. I know you said nothing else in your pocket, but I have seen stranger things happen.

I've not seen it reported by anyone else yet... I use mine probably 10x per day. I like to pretend I'm giving liftgate service for the groceries and try to charge the nearest person $49 for it.

Yes, I have activated my tailgate with my keyfob in my pocket.

While stopped and while driving...

It will still open so long as you are under like 5 mph which is kinda silly...if the truck is in gear, the tailgate should be prohibited from opening.

That would make sense....

I'm not sure I would hear mine open from inside the truck. It opens so slowly I don't think there's a clunk...

That’s the even weirder part as the tailgate is dampened so there shouldn’t have been a noise.

EDIT: Just went out to the driveway to do a test. With the engine off and no radio, which is how it was at the store, you can hear the latch release and the gate bottom out

Had you loaded something recently and maybe not fully latched it?

Funny story about hearing a clunk... first time opening my tailgate from the key fob my tailgate pops open and slams down.... full speed. No damper. Lucky it didn't damage anything.

Turns out they forgot to install my damper from the factory. Lucky my kids weren't under the tailgate, it would have caused them some serious harm. Waiting for the part now.
