This has been happening to me for the past couple of days! At first I thought it was just me hitting the button with the key in my pocket when I got home from work, but then it happened after we got back from running errands, and then it happened again this morning after I got to work. It did not release when we got out at the store last night, though. And this morning it happened twice. I could hear the release actuating several times upon each errant release as well.

I made some Forscan changes last week, but that was literally a week ago.

EDIT: WHOOPS, JUST NOTICED THIS WAS FOR THE 14TH GEN, AND I HAVE A 13TH. My bad. I'd just used the forum's search and found this thread that had been made recently.

Had that problem on the 18 Lariat. Opening tailgate any time any place . Took a dealer repair , I believe Ford issued a safety bulletin. It had to do with moisture getting into the locking mechanism . The issue was more prevalent here in Canada because of freeze thaw cycles. Just my experience though. Similar to the freezing door lock issues on the trucks

Yes this has happen more than once along with setting off the I am a lonely truck alarm while the FOB was in the pants pocket.

Try putting the FOB in with the buttons to your leg VS to the outside of the Jean pockets. Helps a lot.

One bumps a lot of things in the day and the FOB attracts even more random bumps.

Has anyone else had a random tailgate opening?
When entering and exiting my 2017 F150, some times on rare occasions my knee will bump into the headlight switch area and activate something. I would suggest disabling or disconnect your tail gate release dash button which is in the exact same location.

If it happens again afterwards, then you’ll be able to narrow it down.

My tailgate has been mysterious opened past 2 nights. First night I thought maybe my wife left it open. Tonight, my neighbor texted me it was open. Keys were never in my pocket once coming home and went right on key hook.

Hoping this is somehow a fluke.

I have the opposite problem. Most of the time I can't get my tailgate to open. And when I do, it is a very loud clunk from the latch releasing.
Mine is about 3 weeks old so maybe Ford made them harder to open so they don't open on their own

Yes! Couple of times in the last couple days. Drove several miles in the rain with it down. Don't know yet if I'm hitting a button or not. Going to pay close attention for now on. There should be an alert for that, with all the many other alerts that are given!

Also note that the tailgate doesn't relock if you lock the truck and then open and close the tailgate. You have to relock the truck.

This has me concerned, an accidental tailgate opening when a trailer is attached.
This is something that Ford should add a fix for. I would recommend locking out the key fob and panel switch from opening the tailgate when the system knows a trailer is connected.

I agree. Definitely will damage my tailgate if it opens while connected to the trailer.
