Default Interior Work Surface - How Useful?

Did some searching but didn't find any thread dedicated to opinions on this.

Is the interior work surface a must have, nice-to-have, or take-it-or-leave it thing?

I'd like to get it but I'm finding several trucks that otherwise meet my requirements but are missing the work surface. I'm not sure I really "need" it but I will be using the truck for work purposes and I feel like a place to be able to write on paper, set a laptop could come in handy.

But I'm not sure I should pass up on an otherwise good spec truck just to get it. Does look like you could add it later but it is a lot more than the $175 or whatever it costs from the factory.

EDIT: Guess related to this I should also ask if you have to pick between an interior work surface with 20" rims+tires vs no interior work surface with 18" rims+tires, which would you choose?

I love mine. It is excellent for breaking up weed and rolling joints. It later doubles up as a table when I get the munchies.

I guess it passes the multipurpose test. It's definitely a nice setup for a laptop. I have used it several times when I had the Car Wifi setup. It's nice and useful.

LOL Ruge. Weed be friends IRL

I also love my work surface. For bringing the laptop in the truck and doing Forscan alone. I’ve used it for lots of other things too.

I ordered my truck with it. For the cost of the option, it was an easy choice to make, kinda like adding the 7.2kW ProPower. I don't use it enough that I would absolutely have to have it if I had to get a truck off the lot, but it makes things like ForScan/FDRS much easier, as well as the occasional parking lot meal in the cab.

I think if you have a console up front and not a bench, there's no real reason not to option it on the truck because the center console has the same amount of space either way. I don't know why people wouldn't want it if they're ordering it custom.

I had it. Used it once to see how/if it worked. Never saw a need for it. I wouldn't order it as a stand-alone option.

I'd call it a "Nice to Have".... I've eaten in vehicles for years and am certainly not starving. But I have used this several times and it makes it a bit easier. I also use it as a desk occasionally if I'm writing checks/paying bills on my lunch break. I think it's definitely worth the price.

Whelp, sorry 2018, look like your getting traded in for a new model with the work surface.
