It does come in handy if you're on the road (esp with someone in the passenger seat) and you stop for a quick fast food break.

My truck happened to be optioned with it (I didnt build the truck, the dealer did). I am happy to have it as my particular self would have been annoyed if it had the foldable shifter (universal "feature" as far as I can tell) but no work surface. As mentioned I see it useful on roadtrips where we need a place to put our rest stop mcdonalds, or a spot for the laptop when forscaning. Had I built my truck, I probably would have paused and then checked the box, knowing I have it in the off chance I do need it. Its certainly a "nice to have" in my book.

It’s perfect for a laptop. Forscan, work, whatever. I love mine and use it all the time.

Mine gets used to scan signed contract documents and upload them to our company’s servers, plus client checks. Anytime you can deliver contracts and $$$ faster is good.

still haven’t done that burger…

IMHO to fully realize the benefits of the work surface one needs to have a column shift vehicle which then allows the work surface to remain open when the vehicle is in motion.

Flexibility is then doubled with the passenger then able to do tasks on it while the vehicle is in motion.

I toyed with that, but just can't stand the acres of gray plastic on the XL. As for passenger working, wife does that all the time, laptop in lap, hot spot on phone enabled.

What I need is a mouse pad stand attached the passenger door so that dam mouse stops jumping off the arm rest on to the floor.

Sometimes being a lefty and married to a person whose mother was also a lefty has unseen benefits.

I like ours a lot, it's in the "Nice to Have" column, not a must. We have two kids and when on road trips and we stop to eat, there is no better place to prep food we may have stopped to get, and to set our own food. I have used it a few times too when I was running some errand and ended up needing to fill a form out or whatever. For the price paid when I ordered my truck, I definitely find it useful enough I wouldn't skip it. I haven't tracked if Ford has raised the price since. There is definitely a price cap where its benefit wouldn't overcome the cost for how we use it, but at least at the price we paid it was well worth it.

Ford gets some easy wins with me on some of these features because I feel they price them well. Same as the 7.2kW inverter on our PB. I have used that less than I have used the interior work surface, but it's priced so well I would gladly buy it again. But it also has an upper limit on what I would pay.

Have one in mine. Over the last 1.5 years, I have opened it all the way once to see what it was like and only opened it part ways to show people since then. Since I have the console shifter and it can only be opened when parked, I have no use for it. If I stop to eat along the road, I normally need to stretch my legs and will eat anywhere but in my truck. If I had the console shift, I think I would use it a whole lot more.
