Hideaway Shifter
This. And let's get real about the crumb thing - that's been happening for many decades. Think back to all the cars with standards, all those tee-pee leather covers that always collected crumbs, etc etc. Even if you put the shifter on the steering column - they're gonna put an empty tray/holder in it's place right? Won't that also just collect stuff from your burgers too?
I find these consoles getting bigger and bigger and I'd like a little more knee room.
I doubt id ever fold down my shifter.

Do we know yet FOR SURE if the shifter can or can't be 'hidden away' while your truck is moving in drive?
I ask because I'm getting the work surface, and it would be nice to have that table up on long drives for food, etc.

BOTH can get the work surface, they're slightly different, but basically the same and same in concept.
The 40-console-40 is standard on the King and Plat, and standard on the 502a (high) Lariat package, but is otherwise a cost-add option on lower models as the 40-20-40 fold-down seat with steering column shifter is default.
As for the work surface - the work surface is optional for BOTH the 40-20-40 and 40-console-40, so it's immaterial to the discussion of the shifter (meaning not tied in as a determinance)
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I actually prefer the column shift over a console shifter or fold-away shifter anyway, so that works out well. While it is a neat idea, I guess I'm a traditionalist in that sense, haha. I hadn't seen anything that answers this specifically, so I appreciate your help!
It also depends on trim. If you get a non-sport XLT with console you will get a column shift. If you get the work surface on top of that you now have a console work surface with a column shift.
Since you are dying to know, that would be my preferred order.

Same. I find this fold-down shifter thing to be asinine and a total waste of space. The functionality of having the shifter "out of the way" of the fold-down surface is automatically there with a COLUMN shifter. This is literally innovation for the sake of innovation or just being bougie. It's not a Land Rover, y'all.

That was kind of my point.
I like the shifter but if Ford is going to gimmick it to be moved out of the way and provide a button access for when it is then just get rid of it and go solely with the buttons.
Is there such a demand for some form of "work space" that everyone needs this?
Its kind of like the multi folding, 8 piece, swing-tilt tailgates everyones going to...just give me a regular tailgate and a regular shifter!
