Default The door latch problem

I just bought a 2021 F-150 a few months ago. I just had the door not latching issue come up. Holding the door and hitting the lock button doesn't work for me. I hate getting the dealer involved. They only want to act when they see a problem. This is intermittent and will mean many trips to the dealer or leave the truck for days or weeks. Interesting thing is sometimes when ice cold the door latches, but 10 minutes later on the first stop it doesn't. Now I'm stuck having to hold on the door as I drive another 10 or 20 minutes before it works again. Let me tell you, it's not easy driving and holding the door at the same time.

It appears to latch after the heat has been on and the interior has warmed up. This means a lot of wasted gas letting it warm up before driving. I've seen many You Tube videos on lubricating with PB Blaster or WD-40. This so far hasn't worked for me. Any help will be appreciated.

Same issue here 2 times but it only happens 1st thing in the morning if I don’t let the truck warm up for 10-15 mins with the heat on. Ever since I started letting it warm up 10-15 mins with the heat on I’ve haven’t had the issue.. Did a bit of reading about the issue and found out it could be the door actuator freeze up caused my moisture.

We're having some really cold weather this week. But had the same about a month ago and never had a problem until last week. Found out this has been an ongoing problem since the 2015 model year.

Letting her warm up inside the cab for 10-15 mins before opening the door from the inside solved my door handle exit issue. No problems since.

On my 2015 there was a bulletin. Never had an issue, I took it for something else and had them do it. Not sure what was done.

Had 18N03 done on my 2017 2 years ago, no problems since. Replaced the latches, gaskets and locking rod. Fresh grease and re assembly. Was an over nite service. KM

Great....Just got a 2024 and figured this was sorted out. My 2018 had the issue. Ford refused to fix it because it couldn't be "recreated". Unfortunately, you can't recreate it after it warms up.

So much has to do with the dealership. When I decided to take my truck in the service folks did not bother to check or diagnose but took my statement made an appointment and did the service. When making the appointment they said it needed to stay over-nite. KM

When this first happened I called my dealer and made an appointment. But found out after a long warmup the door shut properly. Cancelled the app. This dealer is known for not fixing anything they don't see when your there. They no longer stock parts so even if they saw the problem you would have to live with it until the parts were ordered and came in. This happened when I bought the truck. Wrong TPMS sensors were in the wheels. Had to wait over a week to get the correct ones and have them installed.

I'd be looking into other dealerships. I live in Burlington with a Ford dealer near, but will travel past 4 Ford dealers (been in all and not impressed), to go to Griffin Ford in Waukesha for all dealer service and purchases. KM
