Default Choosing Between Two Trucks

Hey all - I’m currently choosing between two trucks (that are very similar) and seeking some guidance.

The first is local to me - 2021 Platinum w/3.5 EB, 701a, 2kW pro power onboard, interior work surface, trailer tow package, fx4 package, 36gal fuel tank and pano roof. Silver on black, 35k miles asking $57,750. It’s been on the lot for ~2 months.

The second is about 250 miles away - also a ‘21 Platinum but w/5.0 coyote, 701a, interior work surface, fx4 package, 36gal fuel tank, max recline seats, spray-in bed liner, pano roof & hard tonneau cover. Carbon grey on caramelo, 44k miles asking $56,225. It’s only been on the lot for a week or two.

Both are being sold at Ford dealerships.

My initial gut goes towards the second one, as caramelo is my preferred interior color and 5.0 my preferred motor. But it also has more miles, is out of state (so would be more complicated) with no pro power onboard or tow package. The first one seems more practical, presumably more negotiability due to time on lot and is also still under warranty.

If anyone is wondering, I’m not impressed with the ‘24 refresh and prefer the overall packaging of ‘21-‘23 MY. Due to microchip shortages, I’m relegated to either 2021 or early 2022 builds to maintain certain features (multi contour seats, heated steering wheel, etc). Coming from a 2019 Ram 1500 Limited.

Sorry for the long post but appreciate any insight/thoughts - thanks!

Which ever one you choose, tell the dealer you want the software updated to the latest version. Both are probably stuck and or 2 years behind.

Great tip! How can I check software version - settings within sync? What’s the most recent version I should be looking for?

Yes, you will need to go to settings on the infotainment screen of each truck and go to "about sync" and the version will display there. I'm not sure of the current version but it's something like... software version: 23159 revision: 915. Mine is stuck on 21146 revision 145 even after a APIM replacement. Hope that helps.

I would have each dealership provide you an Oasis report of the truck they are seeling, it will show you how many times the trucks had a bug a boo and went to Ford for service.

As opposed to $80k on a new truck? All joking aside, I have about $10-12k worth of equity in my current truck so it would really be more like a 2.5 year old truck for ~$45k.

I'd go with the 5.0
Better fuel mileage.

Had my share of 3.5 ecos...hard pass!

Sounds like the first truck is the better deal. More options, quite a few less miles, not a lot more $$$. And you’re likely right, the time on the lot should give you bargaining power.

why is there a 20% spread on your "equity" ??? Is it tied to some "index" or avg?
Vehicles depreciate... unless you are into collector types. Then you can't drive them.
