2024 Refresh
We certainly had great tailgates back then. Before my grandmother bought the Ford Grand Marquis, she had a 1972 Chevrolet Caprice wagon.. the electric tailgate went under the station wagon. I thought it was the coolest **** ever.
The forgotten tailgate war. As the article says, it was a great innovation that the other automakers copied.

And... a St. Bernard in that advertisement.. bad marketing.. it made the station wagon look so tiny, ha ha ha!
Had an interesting thought last night while checking out a 2024 S650 product test mule a friend has from their place of work. Has the Gen 4 coyote naturally.
For those who have followed closely say the last 20 years, this latest generation of coyote release seems out of character in regards to F-150 and Mustang GT.
- 2004 F-150 debuted the 5.4 3V. The rest of the SUVS, Mustang GT, Expedition, Super Duty got the 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 3V's in 2005. Only one year delay.
- 2011 - 2014 both the S197 Mustang and F-150 had the Gen 1 coyote
- 2015-2017 both the S550 and F-150 had Gen 2 Coyote.
- 2018 - 2020 F-150 had Gen 3 Coyote. But the S550 carried the Gen 3 to 2023. This naturally may be due to the S650 starting as a 2024 model, but still is a 3 year gap.
- 2021 F-150 has what everyone is calling the Gen 4 coyote.
Do we think that means Ford will keep this latest Gen 5.0 around longer than usual in the F-150? If you observe what I outlined above, that's out of character for the past couple of decades. My hope is yes, as it seems to be showing less issues the past 3 years vs the 18-20 run of coyotes in the F150's. It feels like Ford has spent the past decade with a lot of changes and as a buyer, it would be nice to have something stick around that seems "proven" for a bit.

Man...only the looks a mother could love. F.U.G.L.Y! Hopefully it looks better in person. That light design makes me think of a Silverado...almost. I wonder whether the front turn signal will be sequential LED like some of the new GMC and Toyota trucks.

The Mark LT and the Lincoln Blackwood were two different things...
The Mark LT was offered 2002-2003 on the '97-03 generation trucks, and also '06-07 on the '04-08 generation trucks.
The Lincoln Blackwood was only offered in 2002.
The Mark LT was a gussied up F150, the '02-03 had a distinctively different looking front end from the F150. The '06-07 looked very much like the standard F150, only a different grille, slightly different headlights, and tail lights.
The blackwood had the two-piece barn-door style tailgate, the Mark LT never did, even on the '02-03 version.
