I prefer the look on 21-23's, so do I prefer the look on 13th gen than 13.5th gen. but I'll give it more time to grow on me. I remember when lp640 just came out, I prefer the murcielago much better but eventually, lp640 grew on me.

It was only 2022 when it was patented.. but the Ford Grand Marquis already had tailgates that went both ways, up/down and swing, so that's not innovative.. don't know why Ford has never done it for the F-150.

Ford Grand Marquis is similar to Ford Crown Victoria. At least the one we had was a Ford Grand Marquis. It's probably called Mercury Grand Marquis in the U.S., and the station wagons come with a tailgate in the back.

The tailgate opens both ways.. don't know why it's not done for pick-up trucks. Would make it much better.

Didn't the Lincoln, "Blackwood", I think it was called have a split tailgate, and drop down combined? Not many were made.

I forgot about that, yes, you're right, the 11th gen had that, but not the 12th gen when it was no longer sold in the U.S. and it was named Lincoln Mark LT in Mexico and sold there for more years. Mexicans were still buying them even though they cost almost 50% more than the Ford F-150 / Lobo.

The Mark LT and the Lincoln Blackwood were two different things...

The Mark LT was offered 2002-2003 on the '97-03 generation trucks, and also '06-07 on the '04-08 generation trucks.

The Lincoln Blackwood was only offered in 2002.

The Mark LT was a gussied up F150, the '02-03 had a distinctively different looking front end from the F150. The '06-07 looked very much like the standard F150, only a different grille, slightly different headlights, and tail lights.

The blackwood had the two-piece barn-door style tailgate, the Mark LT never did, even on the '02-03 version.

The Blackwood's split tailgate only opened to the sides, not down.

The two-way full-width tailgate on most '70s and '80s station wagons is also available on the Honda Ridgeline.
