Default Routine maintenance plan

Hi All,

I am seeking some feedback on my plan for routine maintenance on my F150 (2.7, 4x4, screw). Anything missing? Anything could be improved?
  • rotate tires @ 5000 miles
  • engine oil when truck says so, or 7500 miles or 1 year
  • engine air filter @ 30000 miles or 1.5 years
  • cabin air filter @ 20000 miles or 1.5 years
  • trans, diffs, transfer oil and engine accessory belt @ 75000 or 6 years
  • engine coolant @ 50000 or 3 years
  • spark plugs at 60000 or 10 years
  • brake fluid at 60000 or 4 years

You're missing the factory-recommended maintenance schedule, which is included with the owner's manual pamphlets. You can also download it free:

My maintenance items were based, in part, on the owner's manual pamphlet.

Much of your list is much sooner than Ford's. Spark plugs are at 100,000 for example. See the manual.

^Yeah. I'm not totally convinced by the owners manual.

Right - what would Ford know about maintenance?

I'm aware of the resource that is the owner's manual. I would also appreciate hearing some feedback about the specific details I posted above.

Not sure of year and engine as IMO it does make some difference but, generally speaking I think you've got a pretty good plan there.

Other factors - towing, how aggressive you drive, even your climate as well as a few other factors do and should come into play when considering your "personal" maintenance schedule. The manual is a great starting point and an excellent reference but as you've noted it is not ideal for every truck. Even Ford has more than one "schedule" depending on different uses and considerations.

Others should also note that this is your truck. Just because it's not what they would do doesn't mean they are right and you should blindly follow.

Anyway I'll just add that going 7500 miles on your oil change that hopefully you're using a full syn oil.

You'll end up with widely disparate suggestions based on opinions that aren't backed by anything except beliefs, most of which are based on ancient history. "I've always changed _____ at XX,XXX since 1927 when I first started driving, and no damn engineer is going to tell me otherwise."

Suit yourself, it's your money.

It would be an improvement to follow the Ford-recommended schedule. Specifically, about the oil interval. I don't think you're aware of it all because you missed part of what the manual says about severe use.
