Default fan problems

my fan hits my shroud sometimes. Sometimes it lasts for a minute and sometimes it can last for an hour. Nothing is loose, and i don't understand how it could be hitting sometimes and then not.
Any help will be much appreciated.

also anyone know any cheater tips on repairing a oil pan. i dont want to have to replace it. I've done it before and it was a total pain.

Check your motor mounts, if they are broken it would allow the engine to move and the fan would hit the shroud.

take your old ones off and put your new ones on.

lol jk.

do you have an engine hoist?

if so, what i did on my friends old 305 was hooked it up to the hoist and took the motor mounts off and put the new ones on. now that was a VERY general response and also it was a carbuerated motor (not that it really matters all that much), but if you want a FULL write up, im sure i could or at least find one somewhere on the web.

ditto on Tonka', use an engine hoist to pull up on the engine to take the weight off the the mounts. Be sure to replace both motor mounts and the transmission mount. The parts are cheap less the $15 bucks each. So while you have everything loose and you are under the truck take the extra time to change out all of the mounts.

Can't say I'd agree with 15 bucks each. If an engine hoist is not available the job can be done one at a time. Use a floor jack or the like and lift at the harmonic balancer. The engine will roll enough to remove the loosened mount, repeat procedure with other. Caution, you might have to loosen the fan shroud from the radiator. Rear tranny mount, piece of cake.
