Default '95 Speedometer and Odometer doesn't work

I have a 1995 F150 with the 302, automatic transmission 2wd. The speedometer and the odometer don't work. The abs light is on and the overdrive light on the shifter blinks on and off. My dad is pretty good with cars and we are both perplexed. Please help!

just recently had exactly the same problem on my '94, problem turned out to be a blown 15A fuse in the interior fuse box

Execut1ve's idea is correct. That can be the problem. If it's not check the VSS in the rear diff. If that's not the issue it's more than likely the speedo itself.

I have already checked the fuse. And we looked at the rear differential and put a new sensor in and it still doesnt work.

Then I would say it's safe to say that your speedometer is bad. Get a whole instrument cluster from a junkyard. Can be had usually for around $40. That should fix your issue. The speedo and odometer are electronic so when they go bad and stop receiving and sending signal they don't work no more.

Would the odometer still show the mileage if it is bad though? Because the mileage is still there.

Yes it would but sense it is not receiving information that the vehicle is moving by means of the speedo it won't move. I would start by pulling the old one out and checking the wires. your O/D light blinking also tells me that the speedo is bad being you replaced the VSS to no avail. I am surprised the VSS didn't fix your issue as it doubles as your anti-lock sensor. Check the wiring harness back there carefully for breaks. It being bad would cause all your issues including the blinking O/D light.

Glad I could help! It's good to pass on knowledge to others when you have ran into the same problems. It'll be hard to check the entire harness but worth it.

I had to take the time to register on this site just to say thank you to you guys. I was recently helping a friend move when out of the blue my speedometer / odometer went out and the trany started shifting hard. This all happened at the exact same time. I checked the trany fluid, got behind the dash to check the cluster, and inspected the trany and rear diff but found no cure for my poison. I never even thought to check the fuses, thinking there is just no way one fuse would cause all this trouble. I'll be danged though if I did not find a blown 15 amp fuse to replace that solved every single problem I had. I found this thread by pure luck just searching for why would this happen bla bla bla, and I am so glad I did. Thank you guys so much, you saved me a lot of pain and money.
