Default Which years are Compatable for upgrades?

New to the platform and I've been searching my face off, but haven't been able to find a definitive list of compatability.

I've got a 2019 RCSB XL and want to upgrade a few things, but I'm not 100% sure they'll work.

Example: are 15-20 tail lights the same if I'm trying to add BLIS tails?

Can I use 15-18 seats if I want to add heated and cooled with leather? (will I be able to control the seats?)

Will a 15-18 center console upgrade work for my 19?

Anything you guys can think of that's specifically NOT compatable within the 13th Gen range?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

All those are possible and will require forscan or a dealer visit to enable the features. Nothing is "plug and play" anymore. I'm sure there are videos on you tube as well.

The only thing I can think of that won't "fit" across the 13th gen trucks, is the grille, hood, headlight bezel, grille valence, may as well say the front clip, on the 15-17 trucks, won't work on the 18-20. They had a nice refresh for the 18's up.
Now, as far as working, tail lights between the early 13th gen, and after the refresh, fit, but the connectors are different.
What all do you have in mind?
Yes, Forscan may have to be used on some things, but I'm not sure what, I only know what will bolt on.

Thanks for the info!

BLIS tails are top of my list right now, but I also have someone local offering seats and a center console out of a 17 that I'd love to have.

We thought the seat heat/ac module may communicate diffently than the 19, so I don't want to get trapped with seats I can't use, big picture.

Ive got a 4" screen system now and stepping up to a bigger, newer unit wouldn't be the worst, either, though an aftermarket unit would be fine, too, if that's the best/easiest way to go about it.

You have an XL....a farm truck, base model, bottom end. Heated cooled seats were standard in Lariat and up. While the seats will fit you better do your homework as to what is needed to get them to work.

If I recall, heated/cooled seats runs through the HVAC setup.

It’s doable, I’m sure, but that’s a lot of work. Someone a lot better versed can probably dish out on what exactly that setup controls, otherwise I would skip doing that the “factory way”.

Grab seats and cobble up harnesses and tap somewhere for power or find an aftermarket kit?

That’s just an example.

I've got a 2017 XL "farm truck, base model, bottom end", but did start off with an STX package so I already had the 8" with Sync 3 and Carplay. I have added heated (not cooled) leather, power folding mirrors, 7 speaker w/subwoofer, OEM trailer brake controller, etc. What I found is that almost nothing is pre-wired with the XL trim, especially in the harness that runs to the back of the truck. Unless things changed with the 2018+ generation , almost anything is possible to add but some of it is more trouble than it's worth. BLIS is likely going to be a difficult addition that requires more than just adding the missing wiring.

i just went thru a seat swap. Swapped to 2018 10 way heated seats into my 2015 8 way power driver and full manual passenger. They were XLT to XLT swap.

The seats physically will fit. But my XLT is already wired to accept higher trim features. However, in an XL, from my research you’ll need to add power and ground to move them. As far as getting heated/cooled to work that’s a whole other involved process bc the hvac features of the seats are controlled by another separate module (DSM I believe) attached to the seat and wired to the BCM which your truck certainly is not equipped with.

Also, if you source different gen seats (15-17 vs 18-20) the passenger seat occupancy sensor will need to be swapped as the truck will not accept the input from the other sensor nor can it be reprogrammed to accept it. So if you have a 2019 aim for sourcing 18-20 seats to avoid having to swap that out.

Center console will swap just fine.

Sounds like I'm where you started. 😁

Honestly, I don't need to do it all at once, but I'd like to get there eventually.

It looks like most upgrades are a combination of adding some harnesses/individual circuits, some modules, a handful of hard parts, and making some Forescan changes.

BLIS, for example, looks like it's the lights, modules, harness extension, and Forescan change, which isn't the end of the world.

Where I'm at now is stuck, because I'm unsure as to what parts to buy from which years without some sort of risk of having spare parts in the garage that won't work. It looks like 15-17/18-20 may be the safe cutoffs overall, but MAYBE some of it crosses over, which is the whole "figure it out" challenge.
