Just curious if anyone here has ever purchased an XL or XLT, figuring it was all the truck they needed and could do without the extra bells and whistles, then later on regretted it?

I'm leaning towards a loaded-up XL (101A, Sport Appearance, STX, FX4, Max Tow) or a nearly-loaded XLT (302A, Sport Appearance, FX4, Max Tow). A Lariat spec'd virtually the same as the XLT is more than $5k higher than the XLT, and that's with the 501A package, not the 502 (comparing MSRP's). For me at least I just don't see an extra $5k+ worth of "truck" over the XLT (and $10k over the XL). Am I missing something here?

 

I have an XLT 302a. The only things I wish it had was leather and the factory led tail and head lights. I plan on getting led bulbs eventually and I can get aftermarket leather. I'm not in a hurry to get either. No regrets.

Edit* forgot. I do wish I had the push button start. Still no regrets tho.

 

No regrets! I have had way to many trucks/SUVs and even a couple cars...sometimes 2 or more a year and they have always been at or near top of the line model. I never liked half the crud... I hate leather, rain sensing wipers, pushbutton start etc etc.
I guess they all felt out of place to me...I like things simple.
This time bought my simple xlt for half what I paid for my 14, and love the heck out of it! Yep, I've added things, but still ahead $$$ as well as I drive what I like now...I'll never by a top model again...

 

I'm with madmatt, I have the 302a and am very happy with it the only thing I miss is leather and led lights. There are few other small creature comforts that I don't mind not having, like push button start, memory seats, bliss and whatnot

 

I don't see how anybody could regret it, these forums contain all the mods you need to turn your XL into a Platinum.

I have an XLT sport with the 302a package. The only regret I have is not having the LED headlights/tail lights.

 

I bought a 302a xlt and did regret it. After riding in a platinum with the led headlights it really showed how bad the halogen headlights are. I ended up trading it for a Lariat with the 502a.

 

The only thing I think I would have rather had on my XL is a back-up camera, and may stil add one. Just don't feel the need for all the luxury items.
