XL Regrets
I've gotten vehicles in the past and regretted it - like completely stripped down with manual windows and terrible sound, no fog lights, etc...
It's probably a personal thing, but the XLT in 302A has more stuff than I could ever need in a truck. Plus different options, I don't see how I could regret getting my XLT.
That being said, I know myself pretty well - so I wouldn't have been happy with an XL. If you feel that way already about the difference between the XLT and the Lariat, maybe reconsider - or even consider a year or two old, certified pre owned.

^^ That.
I saw no reason to buy an XLT or higher, when I knew I was going to be doing bigger wheels/tires, raptor style grill, tint, etc.. Only thing I kind of wish I had was leather seats, and I can still get a quality replacement for under $600 if I install it myself.

No regrets buying my XL. There is nothing I want from the other trims that I couldn't put on myself. Installed SYNC 3 with navigation for $760 which is less than navigation option alone. Put on XLT mirrors for the turn signals which are plug and play. Installed Anzo headlights for the LEDs. Installed remote start.
I don't like leather or moonroofs, wish my '16 Premium Mustang came with cloth. I don't use the cooling seat features in it or the heated seats anyways.
Overall I am happy with my $27k truck and have no regrets with my purchase.
I do wish there was an option for 3.73 elocks without having to get offroad or 4x4 packages. But 3.55s work fine for my needs. I just love all the gear I can get.

Whether or not someone regrets their XL or XLT purchase really depends on their priorities and needs.
Basically, not going Lariat over XLT you lose:
4 Auto
Automatic Climate Control (Including Dual Zone)
Power Fold Mirrors
Push Button Start/Intelligent Access
Nicer Interior (Materials/Finish)
Leather Seating
HomeLink (Garage Door Opener)
Vanity Mirror Lights (I think?)
Lower end stereo (You can still add a kicker sub, but I believe the XLT can otherwise only get the base stereo, definitely correct me if this part is wrong, I have had a hard time understanding the speaker options XLT vs Lariat)
Also access to other options like LED Head/Tails, Heated Steering Wheel, etc.
If none of the above really tickles you, then why would you regret it? For me, I have become really attached to Intelligent Access/Push Button Start on both our vehicles. Also really like having power fold mirrors because our garage is kind of tight width wise and I would need to pull in the passenger mirror manually every day. I am also definitely in the minority of people I personally know in that I love auto climate control.
I could live without all of the above, no doubt, but if I could get the pricing right I would definitely pay more for a Lariat. But there are obviously many, MANY, people that are fine without it. It's all about you.

When I started shopping I was leaning towards the STX package with the 2.7L 4x4 but I wasn't too keen on the 20" wheels nor could I find one with a 36 gallon tank option in my general area. So I settled with the XLT 302A FX4 with the 2.7L and with the 36 gallon tank. Very happy with it.
