Hey guys, new to the forum, so go easy on me.
i know there's a lot of threads on here about what oil to use for your truck, but cant find one like my issue, so here goes. i bought a 2018 f150 with a 3.3L V6 motor, i just changed the oil for its first change at 5000 km, but due to my past knowledge i used straight up conventional oil from canadian tire, motomaster supreme super cheap stuff. i typically run conventional until 20000 km for a "break in period" then i switch to full synthetic. but after a pile of reading, it looks like these new motors come with a synthetic blend from the factory and to not put in something of less quality... so i'm just worried about driving it with the cheap stuff in there and was going to just go get some new oil and switch it out after work but was wondering what is considered a synthetic blend, there's just so many different types, high mileage and other ones that its not straight forward...full synthetic is easy to pick but not the blend...
anyways, any guidance would be great

Use what Ford recommends, Motorcraft 5w20 Semi synthetic. you can pick it up at Wallyworld for $19.99 in a 5 quart jug. I've used it in several vehicles and never had a problem. We make the 3.3 at the engine plant that I work at. It's a good engine with few issues. BTW, welcome to the forum! Autoworker

 

You apparently put in less than optimal oil so my thought would be change it now. Since there isn't much difference in cost, at least in the States, why bother with a blend? Get a full synthetic that meets the Ford requirements (it should be stated in the OM too). You can comfortably run with the oil life monitor and get the benefits of added lubrication performance and protection. That 20k break-in is a misnomer so get it out of your head.

 

You haven't hurt nothin it's good enough oil as long as it's for a engine not crisco ,I believe it's more of a long time thing oil just is not as clean and probably leaves more crud and deposits

 

Is conventional oil not listed as an approved oil in your owners manual?

Recommended Motor oil (Canada): WSS-M2C945-A Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Super Premium Motor Oil CXO-5W20-LSP12 Recommended motor
and
Optional Motor oil (Canada): WSS-M2C945-A Motorcraft® SAE 5W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil CXO-5W20-LFS12

 

I think in modern times all conventional oils are actually synthetic blends. They pretty much have to be to meet all the specs.

 

the stuff i used from Canadian tire had the API stamp on it so i thought it might be ok. but i cant find motorcraft oil at canadian tire or walmart....just motomaster... i was going to just pick up some mobil 1 from walmart. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/mobil-1.../6000198836880

never mind that stuff is only online, not in store... guess ill just get whatever they recommend at canadian tire on my way home.

 

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just shorten your OCI this time around.
