I gave up a few things to get the HDPP but I'm in a better place towing with 2461# payload. I made out better total cost with the rebates and incentives I got the second time. I did lean on Ford because of their screw up and got two PCOs. A Limited or Platinum do not interest me.
Sticker is $5k less than my almost fully optioned HDPP Lariat. I'm glad I got the Lariat with bells and whistles - makes for a very nice daily driver, and an awesome tow machine. 2406 payload on mine.

I tried to separate need from want to contain cost (I'm retired on fixed income) and help with payload. With payload I think some just get lucky!

What configuration gives you a 4500lb rear axle? All I’ve seen are 3800, 4000 and HDPP 4800.

The 9.75 rear is rated for 4,500 lbs. The HDPP axle is a HD 9.75, and is rated for 4,800 lbs.

Nothing beats the eBay “new old stock” front and rear bumpers I got, though. I’m almost ashamed to tell you what I paid for those.

The point is, though, unless you’re really pushing your payload, the money you throw at a HDPP can be better used elsewhere without sacrificing capability.
Well it’s hard to compare if you are shopping for other people selling stuff and special deals.. just saying, nice truck and all though

Yeah if that’s an issue they look at the tire ratings...

Thanks--but if you add up the MSRPs of the items I listed, you'll still come in way under the expense of the heavy duty payload package. HDPP adds a 10% thicker frame (I'd like to see verified weight ratings), a 6.7% stronger rear axle, and some slightly higher numbers on the payload sticker. That's great if you need that few extra pounds of rated capacity, but if you do, you're also limited to a very narrow set of truck configurations.

Again, I ask: what configuration gives you a real axle gross weight rating of 4500? I’ve yet to see this. You can say it’s rated for this, or for that, but when your truck’s sticker says rGAWR 4000lb... you are rated at 4000.

My XLT 302a had a rear axle of 4000. My lariat HDPP is 4800.
