Default Waze and Sync 3

Installed Sync 3 on my 2016 F150 this morning. I have Waze installed on iPhone 7 but it won’t show up on the truck screen. I turn carplay off and have the iPhone attached through USB. Suggestions?

I had heard that the waze app will be enabled soon for apple carplay on Sync3 (like within a month or so).

I am on Android Auto, but I am pretty certain you need to use Carplay to get Waze to work. Only way Waze comes up on my truck is if I do it through Google Auto.

Everything I’m reading says turn carplay off. I’ve tried it both ways and still nothing.

I’m reading it’s available now.

It works well with my BlackBerry (Andriod 7.1.2) using Android Auto. But nogo at all with the iPhone. Tried it with my iPhone and it doesn't work yet. Running Sync3 v3, and the latest version of Waze. So nope, not working yet.

Waze It is not the same for the iPhone as it is with Android Auto. My understanding is Waze for the iPhone will be released in April. If some people are using it now and you can not then make sure you get an APP update and see if a new version of Waze shows up in it.

It was my understanding that Waze (on iPhone) was supposed to work through Apps, not CarPlay.

I use it everyday through Android Auto. I haven't tried it with an iPhone yet - I wonder if we'll need the updated USB hub for my '16 in order for Waze to work as well...

That's right. Apple has prevented Waze from working with CarPlay in favor of it's Apple Maps product. However, Waze has worked with Ford to integrate it directly into the Sync3. So, no CarPlay needed. I believe that it will require the updated USB hub in order to work correctly. Not 100% positive of that though.

At CES it was announced that this is a feature coming before the end of Q1 fiscal which in the business world = July. Don't get your hopes up. Nobody will be seeing this anytime soon. When Ford announced CarPlay they were nearly a year late on their intended release date and for Waze we haven't even hit the initial targeted release window yet.

To be fair, the problem is probably Ford. Keep in mind Spotify recently pulled its support for Sync 3 because Ford is too complicated and costly to work with. Some day App Link will be dead, while CarPlay and Android Auto will actually be useful; that's the day I'm really waiting for.
