Default UnderCoating

I just purchased a 16 SuperCrew about a week ago. I live in Ohio where salt is used on the roads during the winter and I'm curious if I should get the truck undercoated. I've heard the trucks come treated from the factory, but I don't know if that's accurate. Is it worth getting undercoated? I really don't want to see rust underneath in two years.

Was one of the first things I did when I got mine. I live in Ontario Canada and they use salt and beat juice up here. I wouldnt hesitate getting it sprayed...

I've also heard that if applied too thick, it can trap moisture between the frame and coating therefore causing rust anyways, so I'm very torn about what to do.

What did you use? I'm in Ottawa, and am trying to figure out what I should use. I had Krown on my last truck, which I'm sure really helped.

I used Ziebart and got the undercoating and sound deadener and they did a great job taping everything off and got the entire underside of my truck. No need for wheel well liners and it did reduce the road noise on the highway.

I used Ziebart many years ago and the vehicle rusted terribly everywhere after about 10 years. The black tar-like coating held in the rust like glue. Maybe they have changed the formula since then? I know I will not repeat my mistake with them.

Coatings like Krown or Fluid Film that are oil based actually do prevent rust. On my last truck I used white lithium grease in a spray can DIY when new and the only body rust I had was the fuel tank door spot welds because I didn't think to spray there. I sold the truck after 186,000 mi and 12 years with no rust except the gas door. This is in Michigan a heavy salt/brine state.

A buddy of mine drenched it with Formula 3000. Amazing stuff. Been since novemeber and its still creeping out of nooks and crannys. Lol. Unfortunately he quit the shop he was working at so Ill probably go with Krown this year. Ive been spraying my vehicles for 20 years and always will!! Never any rot or rust issues.

I just ordered a Gallon of "Fluid Film Undercoating" and the equipment to spray it. This stuff never dries so it won't trap moisture. It does need to be re-applied ever year on exposed areas. And it creeps into the seams, nooks and crannies. We shall see...
