Tuning the Two.7
So tempting. I bought 5* last June when I first got my 2.7 and I'm not a huge fan. I didn't do anything on a dyno but I'd like to consider myself an experienced driver and some people can just feel these things. At first it felt like I was getting more out of it. In reality, I was just utilizing the vehicle in a more spirited fashion and I wasn't before. When I went back to stock tune and used Sport Mode, I didn't feel much difference. So, a 93 performance tune vs. stock on 87 in Sport and I couldn't tell a difference. The shifts felt pretty good in the performance tune. That was negated by the 2-1 clunk of a downshift in 87eco and 87perf/tow.
Long story short, I haven't had the tune loaded for a while now. Could I have contacted them and gone through the hassle of them modifying it and send data logs? Sure. I didn't. I was dumb thinking if someone advertises something it should perform as advertised. I reached out to SCT to update the software on my tuner and found out I couldn't do it without a Windows based computer. I don't own one. Does Livernois updates function with a Mac?
I'm interested and I don't want to give up hope. I've been eyeing the new Raptor but that's just lust. I'll realistically end up staying with this truck for the next 5 or so years.
Don't mean to thread jack or bash a competitor, just my opinion on the ordeal. I've spent $450 in better ways though.

The biggest reasons being their proprietary programmer allows them far more access to the PCM parameters (I pasted in below one of LME's responses in more detail on this from their YouTube channel) and the fact that they work directly with all big 3 oems. For me, that instills a lot of confidence that these guys know what they're doing.
You might have read that I tested out the JMS BoostMax. I loved the performance but not at the cost of going into limp mode. Now that I got a taste of the potential I'm really fixing to do a true tune.
More info from LME on their programmer:
"The best info we can give is these trucks have approximately 16,000 parameters in the PCM, the most complete 3rd party suites we have seen just crossed the 2000 mark not too long ago, or somewhere around 13% of the PCM, where as we have mapped out all 16,000. Or to look at it another way, around 14,000 are missing. And trust us, there are some very critical items to be able to tune it properly that are missing. This is the biggest reason we don't need datalogs is when we do a tune for these, it does exactly what we tell it to do. That's because we follow the correct path to get to that end result. Now, you can brute force your way to the end point by changing the wrong parameters necessary to get a similar effect, but it means you are going to have to tweak every single vehicle because you are fighting environmental and build differences rather than working with them."
Livernois, do you guys have any F150 2.7 customer testimonials you can share? I haven't been able to find anything posted on this forum or others. I don't doubt folks are happy but it would just be helpful to hear first hand what people are saying. Thanks.
So what is the correct truck? And the 2.7 EcoBoost seems to be the leader for gas mileage in a truck.
All you have to do is practice good riving habits, like not accelerating into red lights or tailgating people... You can get 26mpg city driving, especially with the engine stop feature. Highway if you set cruise at 60mph and go on a flat trip you'll get 30mpg all day.
Going 60mph on flat gives me the 26mpg as rated by certainly not 30..
Depends where you live and the terrain. If i set my 4x4 2.7 at 60 mph cruise i can get 26-27 mph. I bet a 2wd could get pretty damn close to 30
Neither Ford or ourselves recommend utilizing 87 octane fuel in any EcoBoost. We both test on and recommend a minimum of 91 octane in all EcoBoost engines.
We have not taken any of our 2.7's car or truck our to the track yet.
