Holding up just fine. Nice low cost upgrade.

So stupid question - is there an advantage to using these vs the stock ones?

If you don’t wanna choke a looped end strap.....plus just looks I guess. After choking a strap I have to use a hammer to get it to let go, especially if it’s wet.
personally more looks for me.....
Guess you can use the shackle on the hook itself.

I just did my RC conversion and I was able to keep the rubber boots and modified them. I think I cut a little too much but if I don’t like it later on I can just take them out.

Those tow loop boots come off easier if the bumper is off. I removed mine intact when I installed my grill guard and reinstalled the factory tow loops.
Never run a nylon rope or strap thru them/itself if you can avoid it, always a bear to untangle once stretched under tension.
Soft shackles are your friend. Easy on/off, no scratching.
Traditional D rings have a pin hole on the pin top for seizing/locking wire on long term or critical attachments. For good retention easily removed, use a plastic covered colored bread wire tie through that retaining hole. You clan also use thin plastic cable ties but not reusable.

Is the truck pictured a 2020? I am looking to replace my closed rings with D-rings and I am not seeing a slot on rear bolt of the factory ones?

Yes, it's a 2020. It's possible they may have changed the mount, but unlikely. Those mounts that come with the kit are the same design Ford has used for years. IIRC, the slot is on the front position, and with the boots/grommets installed, it's hard to see, and get to. Just take a bit closer look, I'll bet you'll find them.

EDIT, Looking at that kit again, the slots are on the rear most part of the mount.

Yup, I found them and the slots are just flat against the frame and the same color. The bottom of the boot moves but the top of it seems to be pinched tight between the ring and the bumper. I think I am going to but a hole on the underside of the boot to get to the front bolt.

There ya go. Interested on seeing the hole you're talking about.
