Couple months ago, while idling in traffic on I-10 in Houston, I got rear ended at speed by a F-250 and pushed into the back of a Toyota Tundra that was in front of me. My truck was badly damaged at both ends. The other two trucks took some damage but not as severe. Thankfully everyone was able to walk away. The F250's insurance took responsibility and, after a few weeks of estimates and supplements, decided to total my truck.
This is the F250 that rear ended me. The rails saved it from more severe damage.
Here's the back of my truck. Doesn't look too bad given the severity of the impact. The bumper and the hitch receiver took most of the force. The frame was bent a little. The tailgate won't open as the sides are bent out of shape.
Here's the back of the Tundra. Again, doesn't look too bad from the back but the bed was badly bent out of shape.
And now for the money shot. Because the Tundra was lifted, my front bumper slid underneath (which is why the airbags didn't deploy) and all of the impact was on the radiator and engine housing. There was possible frame damage as well because the front doors couldn't be closed after the accident and would sag when opened fully.
This was my first truck and I thoroughly enjoyed driving it over the last 18 months or so. Before I purchased this truck, my wife was kinda skeptical, but she ended up liking it so much so that now she is urging me to buy a raptor - perhaps the only good thing to have come out of this incident :-)
It was great being part of this community. Perhaps I will return someday with a new Raptor - but not until they start making them with V8s again :-)

My wife was driving the kids around in a small sedan. After the accident we got a little extra conscious about the kids' safety in case of a similar accident, especially since these days everyone seems to be driving while looking down into their phones, and so we decided to get her an SUV. I will drive the sedan for a little while until we are able to afford another vehicle, or Raptors get the V8 again, whichever comes first.
