Default Topper and automatic tailgate

I have a 17' super crew short bed and looking at purchasing a topper. I'm on the fence between LLER and ARE but wondering how my remote control's use of AUTO tailgate drop works with a topper and its 1. function, 2. risk of damaging lock (not sure if tailgate needs to open BEFORE / AFTER / DOESN'T Matter.

Feedback appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I have used pop n lock to install an Auto Unlock on my Tacoma. I have a lariat with tailgate electronic lock and auto tailgate release - I’m wondering how auto release works with the topper.

My ARE topper has a lip that comes down in front of the tailgate. It would not let the tailgate open without opening the topper first. It doesn't matter to me since I have an XLT and don't have the remote tailgate release.

Look up the kit. It is for the topper. Not the tailgate.

Thanks, no I am tracking that and have used the pop n lock. I was trying to see how the auto tailgate release played into things.

Leer 550 tonneau.
The cover comes down far enough that it has to be open to drop the tailgate, to avoid damage.

But if you look up the kit I posted, when you auto release the tailgate the back glass on the topper pops open allowing the tailgate to drop.

Part number is pl9555

Here is the kit on a hard cover. Same rules apply for cap.
