Thinking of trading up
I can trade up to a 2022F350 Lariat value package with the 7.3L for $10k out the door. I currently have the 2020 3.5L ecoboost with the HDPP. I am seeing alot of issues with the cam phasers so getting a little concerned as I am looking to keep the truck long term.
Cam phasers that big of an issue or am I just hyping myself up?

Eh, i'd do it even if there wasn't a cam phaser problem. I'm guessing you got the HDPP because you needed it. (odd if you didn't). Since you will be stressing your truck on payload a lot, go get a truck where it doesn't stress and enjoy it long term. You will sacrifice on drive when not under load, but no reason to get HDPP if you aren't under load a lot. Plus, 2 years newer, added warranty, that 7.3L is a beast...
Or not. Do what makes you happy.

Totally depends on what you do with the truck. Even with a 7.3... the SD is gonna be considerably slower than a 150 with a 3.5L. Its WAY more truck and will handle and ride worse than a 150. I haven't seen the new models, but the SD's didnt seem to have the creature comforts the 150's have. If you tow or haul a lot, than it's prob worth it. The 7.3L is a heavy duty unit, and its bolted up to a considerably beefier trans. If you have any questions about the longevity of a 3.5L... the 7.3L will absolutely answer those concerns.
Probably 10-20% of the truck is towing and rest are unloaded. I have a 5k boat I tow the majority of the time so that's no sweat but I can then load the bed up with stuff for a weekend and passengers and not stress. Yellow sticker says 2.5k of payload so that's nice. I have a loaded 10k trailer we use for atving. Mostly only take that 2 hours round trip for day riding. Once a year I pull it about 8 hours one way.
Went with the HDPP in 2020 due to commuting daily, parking garage, and a combination of f150 and superduty'ish payload on a f250. currently work from home 90% of the time. Truck does well and sitting at 19mpg average (running Costco premimum). Mix of highway and city driving. MOG will go down now with winter blend and colder temps.
Just scares me a bit with the continual cam phasers issues. I want to keep this truck 10+ years and not have to worry about any major maintenance items especially if it's an engineering design issue that will keep reoccurring after being fixed.

Here's the reality... for the $10K hit you're going to take (which you won't get back, since the truck will immediately depreciate), you can have the dealer replace all the phasers and the entire timing system. Twice. With money left over. And you've already got the upgraded parts, so there's a good chance you'll never have the issue.
If you *need* a Super Duty, that's one thing. But what you're towing the minority of the time doesn't require one, and the majority of the time it's going to be harder to fit in parking garages, more truck to drive, and a substantial hit to your fuel economy. Honestly, the HDPP is the perfect truck for your needs, since you're occasionally pulling 10K.
Oh, and make sure she receives a steady diet of quality, API-certified, full-syn oil and a Motorcraft filter every 5K. Also, disable *** if you want to help your phasers.
