I agree there should be a button for the tailgate. Most cars have one for the trunk, so why not the tailgate? And while we're at it, to please everybody, why not also re-introduce the tailgate ajar warning on the dash... BUT with the ability to turn it off from the settings? AND also the ability to deactivate the dash switch from the settings if desired? EVERYBODY would be happy that way .
Here is a link on this and the button location. Along with a part number. This is F250
The programming has to be there because on Lariat and above trucks with electric tailgate release one can release the tailgate with the door keypad. (code +5/6 button)
I think I would really like that but also I think I'd be too afraid.
It's nice to physically be there to lower the gate when I've had a visual it's safe.
I didn't know what the remote button did so I pressed it 2x like it was supposed to. I gasped loudly when the gate opened into the garage door. Thank goodness it had the protective lip on top of the gate.
It was the following morning after I bough the truck the night before.
I can't think of enough times for ME to want the dash button. It's rare when I am in the truck and want the gate lowered. All I can think of is when arriving at the trail head for mountain bike riding -lowering it before I exit the truck. I know it is clear to open if I just pulled up and parked.
As for accidentally pressing it ---that's a long shot. Mistaking the button for something else is possible for sure. Maybe a long press required, and only when in park with vehicle running.
One of the worse examples I can think of is a person parks and does not exit vehicle right away. A small vehicle parks behind said truck and driver lowers gate because a minute ago it was clear back there.
And what if you have a tonneau cover that must be raised before lowering the TG?? It's not that hard to pull the TG handle, sheesh.
I have a cover on my truck even though it has a remote tailgate on the key fob. Not a problem if you buy the right kind of cover. You would only run into the problem if you are retrofitting a remote tailgate.
Sorry to bump an older thread but just posting in case someone else is interested in this. I went ahead and followed i8iridium's quote mentioned in post #58 in this thread and used my auto start/stop button to drop the tailgate. Since I'm tuned and have *** permanently disabled I have no other use for it. On the back of the Hazard/*** button there is a white wire in the harness. I simply cut that wire and butt spliced my wire coming from C2280B Pin 1. The hazards function normally but now when pressing the *** button the tailgate drops. Everything is working flawlessly but if anyone thinks this might cause any issues in the future please let me know.

Well, if anyone else ever uses your truck...I can imagine a possible issue.
Ended up tracing the icon that is on the F250 buttons. The matte black vinyl I have matches the factory trim almost perfect. Just hoping my vinyl cutter can cut that small cleanly.
Not exactly OEM match but a decent enough placeholder until I have the time to match it perfectly.
