Default tailgate opens by itself

After 4 months I have finally found a problem with my truck. it seems the tailgate will just open as I am driving down the road. Doesn't happen very often but it does happen. Since I use my truck for work the first few times it happened I thought I had just forgot to close it. But now I am paying closer attention and I've seen it open and go down as I was moving along. Anybody have this happen to them?

Do you have remote tailgate release? Cover over your bed?

From the manual:

The electronic tailgate release will not operate when:
• The battery voltage is below the minimum operating voltage.
• The vehicle speed is at or above 3 mph (5 km/h).

I have an xlt. I don't think it has remote tailgate release. Not sure. I have no cover on the bed.

I got home and mine was open today. But I forgot to close it. Lucky I didnt pickup fast or I would have lost a bunch of stuff. Now I wish there was a dash light to tell me, "dummy did you want to leave your tailgate open"

Yeah I thought it was dumb from day 1 they didn't include a dash light for it now that it has remote opening. Oversight. I have a cover and can't always tell if it's open or closed

If you have the backup camera then shifting into reverse for a second when stopped should answer that question (better than nothing).

Very true, that just requires foresight to ask, is my tailgate open? But good point nonetheless. In the 10 years I've driven trucks I've only once mistakenly left the gate open with stuff in the back and my cover down. Luckily another motorist let me know. But now with the remote latch I'm afraid of mind slippage or an electronic glitch like OP mentioned

Do you push a button or pull a handle to open it?
