Default Tailgate

2016 Lariat. Anybody know how much it would cost to replace my tailgate with one that has a step built in? Or can you add one to one that doesn't have one?

Tailgates run anywhere from 300 to 1500 on ebay.

You can't add the parts to a non-step tailgate - they are built entirely different. Search on eBay or salvage yards are your best bet. If you do buy a tailgate with a built in step, you will also need to buy the Left mounting bracket because they are different between the two tailgates.

I was fortunate enough to find one on eBay that was already the correct color for my truck for 600.00...but you can normally expect them to be closer to 1k

Try an add on Craiglist offer up to swap for one with Step. Every once in a while there is someone who cannot stand it. For me I couldn't live without it. First salesman got it out and showed me it and I tried it and I was like this is useful anytime I load up my bed. Good luck you will be surprised you can try here as well.

Don't forget that there is a lift assist rod in the bottom of the tailgate with a step, and you will need the appropriate bracket on the truck body to capture it, if it is not already there.
