This is the brackets from my swap. The mounted one is what is required for tailgates with the step, the one on the bumper was the original non-step bracket

Go to Harbor Freight and buy one of there folding aluminum steps for like $20, carry it in the bed.

THAT was my solution also. Makes a great bench camping or at sports events.
