Sync3 update question and navigation update
3/4 bars
Automatic update ON
Current version and navigation versio
All, in the process of updating my 2016 XLT sync3 to the current version to accept Apple CarPlay. I have the new USB hub on order.
I followed the instructions on myford for automatic update over WiFi. I connected to my Network, received confirmation of connection, and parked in front of my house where the signal is strongest.
My last update was 8/16. Current version is sync3 version 1. I attached pics. Do I need to toke any additional steps to update to the current version?
aFinally, Does my navigation ever update the maps or is it like the older Garmin where the map you have is set and you have to purchase new maps from ford?
thanks

This has the instructions for the update. Program updates for the map are included. The content updates for the maps are not available yet, but when it is, you have to pay for it.

I had to manually update mine. The wi fi update has not worked for me.

For some of us, yes. I have no idea why. I have downloaded 2.2 and 2.3 using the usb. I moved my router at home to get a stronger signal, even increased my Internet speed, and still get nothing with wi fi.
After updating, I also can not get the confirmation file to load to the owners site.
So far I'm not impressed with Ford's technology.

I'm in the same boat as msgtord. My internet reaches my garage just fine, get about 100mbps down and no updates have ever applied to my truck via wifi. Everything is done manually via USB.

What's your build date? Mines 11/15. I figure I have a first generation sync 3.

I have manually updated mine to v2.2 and then to 3.0, twice as a newer build came out to fix the annoying pop up. What the truck did do after getting V3 installed and finally connected to my wifi was to update the owner site. It shows update of V3 on 10/4/17, and now the site show an upgrade available to V2.3. Has not tried to update to the lower official code either, so appears to be one way to the owner site as of now.
On the maps, don't waste your time or money on them as they are going to remain old maps. If history has shown, the updates are 2 years behind.

Got it. Upgraded tonight using a 16GB usb card. CarPlay hub should be here in a week or so... your right about navigation, the ford system is terrible, although I like the layout of it. Now with car play installed I’ll never use navigation again!

I just updated 2.2 to 2.3 on my non-nav Sync3 using a 16Gb thumb drive. Everything went well. Took just under a half hour to get to the "okay to remove USB drive" prompt. I was busy driving so missed many of the prompts and restarts in the middle, of which at least one said "done" but it really wasn't. I have slow internet so there was no way I could let it auto-update. I waited until I had a one-hour trip scheduled.
I haven't checked for any additional features yet.

I tried to update mine over WiFi multiple times and it would never work, I finally just used a flash drive. I had to use a 32gb drive, how did some of you guys use a 16gb drive?
