I have a 2015 F-150 with the SYNC3 navigation conversion on an old software version (3.1 I think). I want to update, however the auto update features aren't working. I also attempted to upgrade via USB through the ford website, however I only receive SYNC2 updates.

Now my question --- my cousin has a 2016 F-150 w/ SYNC3 NON-NAVIGATION. Will using his USB update via the Ford website brick my SYNC3 due to mine being Nav and his being non-Nav?

They are not compatible, and they are tied to VIN I believe.

 

Yeah I was gonna use his VIN to get that update file on a USB to update mine. Any websites that host the software updates? I looked on ebay but they want $100 or so.

 

The update file is VIN specific. I will sell you mine. It won't update yours...

 

First off anyone selling SYNC3 operating software is a greedy SOB. First its free from Ford, 2nd its illegal to sell it. They basically threatened to sue me when I was giving it away when the first carplay/android auto software came out. I had a long discussion about it with them. If you know the VIN # of the vehicle it came from use that or if you know the year/model it came from just go on the net and find a vin from the same year/model (nav and non nav are different) and find one that needs an update and download the update for it.

 

Wow thanks for that reply. Guy on ebay wants $100 for the map/sync3 update. Hard pressed to pay that for a free update....

 

Map updates are separate from operating systems updates and may or may not be free. You have to have the VIN number the APIM is associated with, If you don't have it there isn't a legit way to get maps without having a qualified person associate your APIM with a certain vehicle.

The ebay software is the same unauthorized software already discussed on this forum in great detail and you can get it for free. I think Ford has thrown in the towel trying to control the legality of the software.

Question about Sync 3...
We just bought a 2020 F150 XLT. On the window sticker it says it has Sync3 w/applink. I was trying to figure out how to change the temp on the climate or at least what it was set on but I can not find it. So I googled it and it said go to climate icon on bottom of screen..well there is no climate icon on our screen. So not sure if we really have it or not. I do know that we don't have dual climate control. So confused...please help!

P.S. Our salesman did not walk us through anything and the dealership is in another town.
