I have also experienced the frustration of installing an update on my 2013 F-150. Sync did not apparently recognize the USB drive, then it did not locate the installation files, etc ......
After many fruitless hours of work and research on this and other forums, following procedures others have used, re-formatting the USB drive multiple times, using a different USB drives I finally found the problem that was haunting me.
When I downloaded the zip file on my Mac laptop and extracted it, something odd happened....
All the files in the folder SyncMyRide were renamed 'SyncMyRide/xxxxxxxxx' where xxxxxxxxx corresponds to the original name of the file. It gave the impression the files were in a folder .... when in fact they weren't.
Renamed installation files give Sync indigestion. Sync was looking for a folder SyncMyRide and it couldn't find it on my thumb drive.
So I created a new folder called SyncMyRide, edited each individual file's name removing the "SyncMyRide/" portion and finally move these files inside the new folder I created.
Presto.....that was all it needed.
The update was smooth from that point forward.
Hope this helps someone.
