ok I've read a lot of the threads about updating most of them are way above my pay grade, I have a 2016 F150 Platinum with nav and a touch screen but when i try to do an upgrade thru the WiFi I don't have the scan for new updates selection which seem easier than a usb update.
this makes no sense 2006. anybody have any suggestions like should i do a master reset?

I have never heard of anyone with a 2016 successfully update via WiFi. It just won't happen. I use Cyanlabs Sync3Updater. It is not that hard.
I have a 2017 that had sync 3.1 or 3.2 I think. I used cyanlabs updater a couple of weekends ago to update to sync 3.4 and it could not have been easier. Download the program --> insert a quality USB drive --> let cyanlabs download the files it needs to and format the USB --> walk outside and start your truck and insert the USB --> it automatically does everything for you. Dont have to touch anything on the truck other than inserting the USB.
I upgraded my ‘16 Non-nav Lariat with a memory stick and software from the Ford website to Sync 2.0. It was very easy. Without Nav, it only took about 4 minutes.
Was curious, so checked Ford site. For my 2016 F150 XLT (non-Nav), it allows updating to 3.023219. Is there any advantage to later updates (e.g. 3.1, 3.2, etc.....)
?

latest update (3.4) allows apple carplay but also requires a new USB hub.
My understanding is cyanlabs “hacks” or “unlocks” whatever module holds sync software and allows any 15-20 f150 to upgrade to sync 3.4 (provided you have the correct usb port). I updated for the new maps, it’s somewhat faster, and looks way more modern than the previous sync versions. I think fords website said mine could only go to 3.2 but this is a workaround
