I was at the dealership yesterday, they pretty much refused to do the update, saying my WIFI should take care of it. I knew better, but didnt know the process would be quite so involved. I should have made a bigger fuss.

Default Sync 3.0 success but no gracenotes

I successfully installed 3.0 using ACool method after reciving the dreaded memory error. Since installing it seems the Ford apps are working pretty well but CarPlay has been acting buggy and on a few occasions failed to start even though it’s enabled. Anyone else experiencing this? Also I noticed that on my version screen no grave note version is listed, was this something I needed to add back in?

I also noticed Gracenote no longer displays a version. Not sure if it’s broken since I don’t use it. I only use BT audio. I would use CarPlay too but it has the annoying habit of changing the default audio source to AM radio instead of BT audio, the only other source I use. I wish I could just disable the radio sources, or just have it switch back to the last source it was using when I disconnect the USB plug.

SUCCESSFULLY UPDATED FROM SYNC2.2 TO SYNC 3 USING USB DRIVE FIRST TIME

here’s what I did:

brand new 32g usb3 stick.
-plugged in to laptop and let drivers download
-CONTROL PANEL<E drive(usb)
-right click and select “format”
-select “EXFAT” and format it.
-wait for completed message. Do not unplug it

Go to the ford owner site and download the upload TO YOUR DESKTOP. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE DIRECTLY TO THE USB DRIVE

REPEAT

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE DIRECTLY TO THE USB DRIVE

-extract files using Winzip/windows compressor
-select “extract all”
-change location to USB DRIVE
-it will say “unzipping 11 files”
-once done downloading it will only be 3 items
-after unzipping to usb, eject drive safely

TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE IGNITION RUNNING!

-unplug cables for CarPlay/AndroidAuto
-plug usb into either port
-in a few mins, screen will say “updating system”
-during middle of instal, truck May shut off
-truck will turn back on if it does. Do not unplug
-When complete screen will say“system updated”
-will also say “updates will take affect next start”
-turn ignition off and remove usb

TRUCK MUST BE OFF FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES TO ALLOW FOR UPDATING TO ACTUALLY HAPPEN.

-plug usb into computer and upload .xml file
-delete all files and reformat back to empty
-turn truck on. May/may not need to add phone.

This worked for me the the first time and it only took around 10 minutes. Hope it works for you all!!!

You shouldn't need to download anything beyond the update you got from Ford. All you need to do is create two versions of the autoinstall.lst to run the update in two passes.
The first pass I did without the JR3T-14G391-BD.tar.gz file in the autoinstall.lst, so delete that from the list and don't forget to renumber the Item and Open entries. So mine looked like this:
The second pass I did with only the GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz and JR3T-14G391-BD.tar.gz in the autoinstall.lst.
I did get a strange message on both passes but it seemed to work. Sync version now shows v3.0.
I am getting err03. I down load the 3.0 from fords web site. I have tried two different flash drives a 64 g and a 32 g.
burritoman did you have two different flash drives to be able to run the two passes?

No, I just used one 8gb flash drive formatted as FAT32 and extracted the contents of the downloaded file to it. On both passes I simply edited the autoinstall.lst file as I posted above.

Edit: On both passes after installation says completed, I made sure to turn the ignition off and then exit the vehicle for a few minutes.

I guess i am getting confused when you say to passes. So you extracted the .zip, edited the autoinstall.lst like you posted then copied the the syncmyride, autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA files to the flash drive?

Yes, you have to perform the installation twice with the edited autoinstall file.
