I have very few complaints about Sync 3... but one of my main complaints is more directed at Sirius provided data... the weather radar is VERY low res (like from 1995) and never current... their weather map is not touch zoomable, does not support DST (last update time is always an hour off). The data they send for fuel prices is also always old. Traffic data is no where near as current as Waze. I am glad it is not costing me for 5 years, since I would not pay for it.

The loss of health reports and the incorporation of an owner app that gives me absolutely nothing, is a poor decision on Fords part... i am sure they want to make them only part of paid Sync Connect... but, I happen to feel that I have the right to get all available diagnostic info on MY vehicle.

And, of course, the ever delayed and changing story on CarPlay.

where did you see it requires a new APIM? Up until now it's been new USB Ports/cables. If it's a new APIM, then it's going to cost $$$$$ to upgrade. Rather the $100-$150 for the USB cables/ports.

That's what i thought but tried the wifes and daughter's (android) and friends and other daughter's (Iphones) and it happends to all of them. I get no error they just disconnect and i cant reconnect until i turn off the truck and restart the truck. When i try to reconnect right after it disconnectes sync 3 tells me it cant find my bluetooth divice even tho its paired.

I called Ford about it about a month ago and was trying to understand the need for additional hardware. The representative and I had a fairly heated discussion about how their representatives at dealerships were misrepresenting their product, claiming CarPlay was going to be available later in the year with no additional changes other than a software update (and multiple dealerships said the same exact thing). He said that the APIM currently in the 2016's is incompatible with late-model iPhones, which is also why a number of people have experienced issues with maintaining connections with them and AppLink. Whether that's fact or fiction, I don't know. That's just what he told me. I've seen on other sites that it was the USB module...but the problem with that is that USB is an IEEE standard...there should be no difference between functionality between various USB modules.

To add to that...Ford was going to demo wireless CarPlay at CES and did not at the request of Apple. So I know they must have spec'd out the appropriate hardware long ago.

Same here. I've noticed that the only way to get music to play consistently is to shut BT off and use USB...and even then it gets disconnected.

The fact we're even talking about this is somewhat pathetic...we paid 50K+ for these trucks for premium features and quality when Hyundai Elantras have had this functionality for a long time. Sad.

This is happening to me steady. I mainly listen to audible but it is constantly disconnecting. I can sometimes reconnect by rebooting my iphone, but not 100% of the time. I pretty much have to shut off the truck and try to reconnect. Terrible for long trips! I thought it was my phone but it must be happening to alot of people.

Are you connecting via USB? If so, do you notice that the right-hand port side works better than the left?

I know that sounds crazy...but with mine, when I connect to the right-hand side port, it's far more consistent. I can actually get a couple of hours without it disconnecting.

When I was picking up my new 2016 lariat, they gave me a loaner 2017 escape to drive. It had apple CarPlay. It was pretty awesome. I really hope it will one day work in my Lariat.

Yeah...I think that's what most of us have been saying...but we bought Fords, so the likelihood of us getting anything more than what we already have is pretty low. I'll believe it when I see it...besides it's going to cost us money to add IF it becomes available.

For the people with working carplay/android auto - can you view (apple/google) maps while listening to a Sync 3 audio source, or are you limited to audio from your phone only.?
