***Sync 3 Software 3Q2016 Changes***
Ford's activity in the infotainment space has been all over the board in my opinion, especially with the major reboot to QNX from Microsoft MFT. I feel they should have offered an upgrade path (I'm fine with it costing, it doesn't have to be free) for those that have MFT.
I'd also like to point out that you're responding to a post that is 4 months old. Ford's really dragged their feel with releasing Sync v2 for those users with Sync V1. I personally feel it's poor planning on Ford's part when one can buy a truck with v2 that's the same model year, and v 1's are still waiting for the release.
From reading tmcolegr previous posts, dude has a pretty good grasp on the F150 product (he supports a fleet of them if I recall).

If you're not in a rush to get phone screen integration, I'd wait for Ford official channels. Some people like to have the latest and greatest (which may or may not have bugs), and if you're one of them then go ahead.
I mean, the version that is released is the one from the official channel. It just has been a tiered release with Lincoln first on the list.
I did the upgrade 2 days ago it installed without a problem on my non-nav 2016.
Android Auto has specific apps it works with including Pandora, Sync3 already had Pandora that I use. I Checked out the AA websites and message boards to checkout the available apps before making the jump. The only 2 I have used so far are Maps and Pandora.
The Google Maps app work great and is the main reason for my update (I bought my truck without navigation as I was planning to use AA).
If you are not going to use AA or CP I'm not sure why you would need to upgrade.
