***Sync 3 Software 3Q2016 Changes***
It doesn't say that, they are basically warning a dealer not to downgrade a module to the 1.0 version. There will be an upgrade to the sync3 systems from version 1.0 to 2.0. It would just be nice if Ford would provide a date and not pointed people to the crap social site for an announcement.

I get that Ford promised an update at some point for existing systems. It's the whole reason there's a $50K+ truck sitting in my driveway now instead of next year.
I've seen them play these games before, just hoping it all works out in our favor.
Story time:
We bought a 2014 Escape back in July of '14. One of the items we were after was the foot activated liftgate. On Escape's with the towing package you did not (could not) get the foot activated liftgate because the hitch occupied the same under bumper space as the sensors needed to make the feature work. We were going to order to get what we wanted but ended up missing the window by a week on the '14s. Luckily our salesman found a 95% match at a nearby dealer and we agreed to have them dealer swap it for us. Only catch: it had the towing package :S. Our salesman mentioned he heard a rumor from co-workers that Ford had found a new way to deploy the sensors so you could have both, but it wouldn't be officially supported till the '15 model year. However, he had heard also that some '14s were coming off the line with the "fix". We went out onto the lot to try their stock, none worked. When ours arrived though it did work as it had just gotten off the transport from Ford. Ford was being mum about it as not to create animosity with the rest of the '14 owners.
Anyways kind of related story, kinda not. At least Ford is upfront about releasing an update this time around.
Oh and why didn't I want the towing package?: It's an escape...we also had/have an F150 for that.

Hopefully ford will either release the upgrade or at least a date on when it's available.
The whole announcement is to let dealers know that the trucks are shipping with 2.0 and some of the features are different. They are telling the dealer to RTFM and not change the software to something they know. Just because it's different, doesn't mean it's broken. If a system is at 2.0 you can only downgrade it to 2.0. I doubt dealers have the 2.0 firmware in their systems yet. So the only release they would have available to load would be 1.0.

I'm curious about a few things...
I wonder if these new trucks have the new hardware.
If not, I wonder why an update hasn't been released for all the previous 2016s.
Maybe a release will be issued in the next week... doesn't seem (to me anyway) any reason not to if the hardware is the same.
The version 2 software shown does not seem to show Apple Car Play as a choice.
I wonder if this truck has new software but still requires the "mysterious hardware upgrade" to use the apple software. Maybe it only shows the options appropriate for what's connected? (connect an Android doesn't show Apple Car Play & vise versa?). That's how the "apps" seem to work, if they aren't running on the iPhone, the don't show up on the truck screen.

This has nothing to do with connect or 2017 vehicles.
I picked up my 2016 with Sync 3 last Tuesday. My manual indicates I have Apple CarPlay, but I can't get it to work after following all the steps. I called Ford and they said my truck doesn't support it but there will be an update later in the year to allow my truck to support it. Is it in everyone else's manuals?
