Default Sync 3 checking for update time

How long does this take? When I go through this process of checking for updates it tells me it’s still checking after 20 minutes.

I tried twice yesterday on my dad's 2016.

After about 10 minutes it said it couldn't connect. Gave up on it.

Went ahead and downloaded it on my computer ibut need to find a empty 32GB thumb drive to install it.

Reboot the system by holding down volume and next track ( > ) for several seconds. Then it should work.

It's been reported on another thread here that the update is not available using wifi. Go to owner.ford.com and download it to a usb thumb drive.

It says you need a 32g drive, but you don't. I used a 3g drove and it worked just fine. Update files are roughly 1.5g.

That's the official word from Ford, as reported a few days ago in this largely overlooked thread:

I’m not asking about doing the update via WiFi, I just want to know how long it should take for the Sync to actually determine if there is an available update. I have not been able to find that answer, but it seems like it shouldn’t take but a minute or so at most.

It will take forever...the update is not available via wifi...and it will not tell you that via wifi...the entire process for updating via wifi is broken...

My 2016 has never shown an update. I just check the owner's site every now and then. Then manually load the update.

When checking did work for me in the past, I think it took about a minute. Since the update via wifi is not working on Ford's end now, currently Sync 3 will continue checking until the process times out (fails), which seems to be about 3-4 minutes. I haven't actually timed it, but that's my best estimate.
